No they don't - they discriminate against men, by making them do 3 yrs, vs 21 moonths for women :) "Now I guess I'll sit back and watch people misinterpret what I just said......" Christian Graus At The Soapbox

Rather than portraying the soldier as heroic, confident, or proud, my images disclose a complexity of emotions. The soldier is often caught in a transient moment of self-reflection, uncertainty, a break from her daily reality, as if questioning her own identity and state of contradiction. She is a soldier in uniform but at the same time she is a teenage girl who is trying to negotiate between these two extreme dimensions.

I personally consider, Women are in no way related to arms and fights. They look better without guns, they are by nature designed to do lighter works. you can better make the title as Guns n Roses!, In my country nothing is mandatory, if you wish, and ofcourse if you have the physical fitness that's enough to join the armed forces, you'll be grabbed in. but its not at all Mandatory. In my school days , looking at arnie's *cammando*, *prediator*, I had a craving desire to join the army, sometime later I managed to join NCC (National Cadet Corps). that's the junior students' force. though we wont be sent to the boundries, we'll be given enough training to load a gun and shoot . and too much of drills . but you'll learn what is descipline there. but more than learning desipline, I enjoyed the guns :-O .

Intersting. I wonder what their track record is? Have there been any problems with them in combat? Does it bother the other male soldiers? I better stop now now before I find myself spending half the afternoon googling for info on this! :) ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! I remember reading that the Isrealis stopped using them for frontline action in major combat situations. The problem wasn't on thier end, but that the arabs soldiers were far more likely to fight to the death rather than surrender when engaged by female soldiers. The fanatical resistance resulted in slowed advances and higher levels of blue casualties. Niether of which were acceptable miltarily.

Yeah. Some people look down on Israel's mandatory conscription. I see where that's coming from, it's understandable. They have at least, as I understand it, lowered the number of mandatory years one must serve. In any case, one has to realize Israel is quite a different situation than Europe or the United States. Israel is attacked on an almost weekly basis by Islamic suicide bombers. It is surrounded by 23 Arab nations, most of which are fundamentalist Islamic theocracies and therefore hostile to Israel. We've been invaded on several occassions by multiple nations simultaneously; given that our land is relatively tiny, we have to be ready for defense at any moment. I don't know if that is enough to warrant mandatory conscription, but it certainly requires a well-trained military on constant alert, to say the least. That is critical to the preservation of the state itself. I should add the disclaimer that I'm a bit biased; my younger brother will be joining the Israeli Defense Forces this summer.

Where is the correlation between Rabbi's (Religious) and conscription (Government mandated) There are few female rabbis because all but the progressive sects do not allow it.

Most israelis ive known fall into 2 categories. 1) Do their time, and only their time, then get the hell out. It used to be the case that they had to do 1mnth per year as well as the 3 years at age 18 - this was viewed the same way... necessary evil 2) Leave the country/apply for exemption due to not wanting to be in the army at all. I have known exactly zero career IDF soldiers - but there must be some otherwise there would be no upper ranks.

They don't use hands and brute force a lot in the armed forces these days though. They use guns and bombs, the use of which does not really need a lot of physical strength. Regards, Nish

Some are tougher and better fighters then most of the men, (and not just because they do more groin kicks). Personally, as long as women can meet the same standards as men they should be allowed to do the same job.

There are extrodinaries in every field. but when you take up things physically, women cannot stand up to the competion. they may be a good groin-kickers, but can you cannot say they'll beat all guys around. and who's your master ? is he a Guy or a Lady? and why we don't find a woman version of bruce lee or chuck?

They don't use hands and brute force a lot in the armed forces these days though. They use guns and bombs, the use of which does not really need a lot of physical strength. Regards, Nish

My view is like they are intellectually on par with men, or even better. So they'll better suit for controlling UAVs :). I dont tell this with a discriminatory sense, but I feel they dont need this physical strain and that too when we have enough men in the armed forces. and moreover I take a typical Indian women as an example.

I believe Judah lives in the US, but was originally from Israel. Only confusing aspect is that he's a Christian and I always thought Israel had 100% Jews! Regards, Nish
