Myth: Requirements On the machine I'm using right now, FF is taking up 15.9 mb. In order to run IE under Windows, you need Windows at 5gb, thank you very much. They also neglected to add the Firefox runs on Mac OS-X , Linux, and Unix. As far as CPU, who cares if it runs on a 486 when everyone knows Windows 2000/XP won't even install on that machine... Myth: Security Notice they don't even *list* IE? It *is* more secure because it doesn't allow activeX. Even IE comes with activex turned off by default. ------- sig starts "Why don't you tie a kerosene-soaked rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001 -- modified at 13:30 Friday 21st April, 2006

So if IE has ActiveX turned off, then that makes it as secure. A stupid user can just as easily run an EXE as well as allow activex controls. ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,¸

Ok, I just tried CP again, checking that JS was enabled. That wasn't the problem. I noticed that using Opera, on the top of the messageboard, the message "Hint: For a faster board use IE 4+ or Mozilla, choose 'Message View' from the View dropdown and hit 'Set Options'." appears, so it's clearly a CP problem and Opera is innocent. :) ___________________________________ Tozzi is right: Gaia is getting rid of us. Opera's DOM is different than the FF/IE one in some places, it's possible that it won't work right and chris is legitamately blocking it. If I remember I'll try having O id itself as FF when I go home from work and see what happens. I've discussed a few shortcomings in O elsewhere with the dev and was explained that Opera didn't support the X, Y and Z methods or have alternatives to them, consequently features Foo and Bar couldn't be made to work. O9beta didn't work any better than 8.5x does.

I use IE, Firefox and Opera. In the latter two I never took any notice of claims of "faster," "more secure", "not Microsoft." To be honest I've never been able to notice any difference in speed between any of these browsers. I use Firefox and Opera simply because they have certain features that are superior to what IE has. I use all three because no one browser is better than the others in all respects and for all purposes. Kevin

IIRC the one time I had FF burdened with the same 20+ tabs I normally have my home copy of opera running O was using much less memory and noticably faster. At light duty levels I can't notice a difference on newer machines. I went from NS 4.7x to O5.x instead of M0.7x because on my old machine Opera was noticably faster than that version of Mozilla.

Because IE ROCKS! No I use both really, but I'm too lazy to really use Opera, I.E. was pre-installed and all my initial shortcuts and favorites are there and I can't be bothered to change it. I use Opera a lot for testing as my alternative browser when I'm doing anything web related or if I.E. starts acting up. Honestly I don't actually care too much as long as I click and it comes up what browser I'm using, I guess that puts me in the majority of world users. Computers have fallen very deeply into the "it's just a tool" category for me since about 1990 or so, before that I thought they were cool. People like me go on to write business software.

I'm getting that problem again sometimes in IE7 Beta 2 Preview 2 (7.0.5335.5). I thought it had been fixed, but it's back. At the same time I don't seem to be getting the right stylesheet, or something like it: all links are underlined, and Arial is used instead of Verdana. Sometimes signing out and back in sorts it out. Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder

Wow I've been using Opera for years as my secondary browser and I feel pretty vindicated. Let's face it, Opera is superior in many ways, it's nice to see that my hunch that FireFox was just an overhyped fad is proven out by the facts. People may choose to use it but it's an emotional, not logical, decision for most.
