So happy, after so long on Wednesday I'll be taking a vacation. Road trip with 2 kids and wife for 9 hours to Lake Tahoe! Maybe I am not looking forward that part. I love road trips, not with my kids! Its being a long time since my last little vacation. Need to get away from SoCal, too much work, traffic, rush, pollution. Going a little crazy lately. Need some nature, birds, hug a tree or two. I haven't been to Lake Tahoe, so anybody can give me some good pointers or things to do? I'll be staying on Stateline NV. 20 minutes from South Lake Tahoe, CA Things to do or not to do will be great, remember I got 2 very young kids. (2 years and 2 months old) Thanks Al My eMail control My Blog

I have no idea what to do at Lake Tahoe, but I do have an idea of something for you to do. Give your wife and kids a great big hug each and every day. Should make the vacation a lot more fun for everyone. Have fun and enjoy. :) Chris Meech I am Canadian. [heard in a local bar] When I want privacy, I'll close the bathroom door. Take a boat tour of Emerald Bay[^] Just go sit on the beach somewhere If you're a Godfather II fan, there's a place where you can pull off on the side of the lake and you can see what's left of the Fleur du Lac[^]. Take a gondola ride[^] I don't know if the resorts are still open, but maybe you could hit the slopes. My wife and I found some great hiking trails at Fallen Leaf Lake[^] There's all kinds of stuff to do up there. We love Tahoe. Have fun! Jon Sagara Look at him. He runs like a Welshman. Reno is close by for some gambling. Then there is historic (tourist trap) Virginia City. There's also a really good chocolate factory in that area, but I can't remember the name. But what I liked best was the beach surrounded by mountains and parasailing over the lake.

Hiking will be pretty difficult with 2 kids. However I like the other ideas. Any place for young kids that you can remember? Al My eMail control My Blog

Sorry, just what I've found on Google[^]. I don't have any kids of my own yet, and it has been 20+ years since I used to go up there as a kid. I just remember that my parents took us to the beach. It's probably still a bit chilly for that, though. Maybe you can take the kids to Circus Circus[^] in Reno. Lots of games there. Or if you are really 'old' and remember the old Bonanza TV series - they have the set that you can walk around - as well as other items. They used to have a travel tape that you could purchase at a visitor's center and it would describe where you were on the road around the lake - and periodically have you stop to look at some of the interesting sites. It doesn't take a 'long' time to drive around the lake - though with two young kids you might want to stop more frequently. There are casinos in Tahoe - so no need to drive to reno if that is on your agenda - though you might want to look into what shows are playing at the casinos - sometimes they are kid friendly (we saw Bob Newhart when we were there @ 5-6 years ago). I also agree with the individual who mentioned Google. Look around and find the kid friendly features and it will be an enjoyable trip. Doug

Nope, they sold the ranch to developers, and it is now closed. My friends got married near there, and we were lucky to go on one of the last tours. http://www.tvland.com/shows/bonanza/[^] Jon Sagara Look at him. He runs like a Welshman. 70+ miles, if I remember correctly. If there is traffic, it could take 3 hours. Without much traffic, it would still take 2 hours since the speed limit is 35 mph.

He is staying in Stateline, NV which has lots of casinos. The casinos are built right on the California-Nevada border with the entrance literally on the dividing line!

I guess what I mean is, when your children are gone you will miss the time you spent together. Try to see your trip through your childrens eyes. Yah, it might take a little longer. So what, your on vacation! Set aside the schedule and see what you can find on the way there. How old are your children?

2 months old and 2 years old so not a picnic to take them in a long road trip. As they of course get very tired after the first hour. We are trying to do the 9 hours to Lake Tahoe in 2 days so they don't have to be in the car too long in one day. My 2 years old will enjoy, however my 2 month old prefers to stay at home :-) Al My eMail control My Blog
