Microsoft support

I have the problem described in the KB article 909095[^]. It seems that in order to obtain the patch you have to contact the support service. I have never done this, and I wonder if there is actually something to pay. I'm not going to spend 69 Euros for a patch. What can you tell about that? ___________________________________ Tozzi is right: Gaia is getting rid of us. My Blog [ITA]

Did u read this line on that page? Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question. Sohail

The text that the other poster posted is Microsoft covering their collective backside. In practice - so my contact in MS support has told me in the past, and this has also been my experience - if PSS give you a hotfix to solve your problem, you will not be charged for the call, or if you used a free support incident, this will be returned. Note that if you obtained Windows, or any other Microsoft software, through an OEM your first line of support is with your OEM, not Microsoft. If you bought Windows off the shelf, or otherwise as a boxed retail product, you get some free support incidents - two, with XP Professional, as I recall. If it's part of a volume licence deal, you may have some free incidents as part of that deal. If it's through the partner programme, there are some free incidents with that too, unless it's an Action Pack subscription where there aren't. Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder
