Good Bye

Hi Dear CPians, <modified after seeing the replies> Please discuss about lounge and soapbox and dont stay around in my decision <modified after seeing the replies> This is a Good bye to Lounge and Soapbox from a newcomer (Only due to circumstances and Only to lounge and soapbox not from the remaining forums). I have been watching the lounge and soapbox for quite a long time, In fact, even before my joining in the CP community. Still I am an ardent fan of some of the CPians for their flair in the language. Following CP, now I am also become a fan of voidnish.com I used to closely follow all the threads like Iran issue, vegetarianism etc. Some of you have very high sense of humour while some others are really caring. Like many of you I too had worried when Adnan siddiqui left the place. Infact I dont know what provoked me to shoot my first post in the soapbox. Yes…...I remember it was a post about reincarnation from pathakr, which stimulated my appetite. Since lots of things are happening around us and most of us would love to be aware of these things, this is a great platform, which would lift you to the new horizons of knowledge (You know, My dream was to become a jounalist….)which will help you to become as a true global citizen. But realizing the fact that I am not a 'codeguru' like most of you and lounging is affecting my daily routines I made a decision to say Good Bye from lounge and soapbox. Please don’t take it in a negative sense .Its affecting me only because of my very personal traits as a lover of general affairs (and also due to ‘a tonne of work’ (oh…my all 330000000 gods) which has been assigned to me today) If I came back(It will not happen soon,I assure) it will be....Ah...a new incarnation, probably. I would suggest Nish to provide a separate link compling the best of lounge and soapbox. And it should not accept another posts. Long live CP ...and I wish lounge and soapbox would be considered as the voice of the real world by everyone. I must add one more thing Usually when we(including most of my collegues) search for an unknowing programming question in the net,our first google search would be like, "The question" + Codeproject Nish,I admire you for speaking so strongly for Kerala though you are in Toronto. Not Oommen chandy but you should have been given the IT portfolio in the ministry of Kerala(..no,I am serious) -- modified at 9:00 Saturday 6t

So you came to CodeProject just for the Lounge and the Soapbox, instead of programming as the main reason?!

A lot of people do. You can do a search for some comments by Chris Maunder (from maybe a week ago or less) where he states that the lounge is the heart and soul of CP and the lounge is what makes this place into what it is. I think he says something to the point of "Tons of people come here get their programming example and leave without ever posting. There are many who come here discover the lounge and decide to stay... permanently." That's totally a paraphrase and probably a misquote in general but I think I preserved the idea well enough. Sometimes I venture into the programming forums but I love to hang in the lounge and absorb all the information to be found here. It's like basking in a library of great information. I love it.

Welcome to CP in your language. Post the unicode version in My CP Blog [ ^ ] now.People who don't understand how awesome Firefox is have never used CPhog. The act of using CPhog alone doesn't make Firefox cool. Ah, and after two years of not visiting CP I've returned. It's great to see that most of the same people are still here. Hello again everyone, although I don't expect anyone to remember me it's nice to be back. Signature under construction.

When (if) your workload diminishes, do come back. Until then, farewell. I would say in parting, however, that if your load is truly so large that you can't find time for the Lounge, you are in dire need of the Lounge more than any of us. If you don't have the time, make the time, to allow yourself to blow off some steam and let the deadlines take care of themselves, you are in great danger of burning out. That's no way to live - just a quick way to die intellectually. If the Lounge and the Soapbox aren't what you need, find some other outlet. No job, however lucrative, is as important as the quality of life you live. I've known homeless people who were happier than many CEOs I've met, because they were pursuing a quality of life that the job just didn't offer. I'm no 'codeguru' either, by any definition - I'm an engineer who occasionally writes some code to get a job done. It's usually brutally ugly, but it gets the job done, and that's why I don't post any articles. Everyone here is a better programmer than I am. But I have come to love these people, and to rely on their humor and intelligence to get me through the day. They are my extended family (my genetic one being something akin to a box of rocks), and I depend upon my daily dose of CP to help me survive another day of dealing with idiots. It's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. Go, if you must, but once in a while take the time to check back and lurk for a while. You'll never in your life meet a better bunch of people, and I don't think that, in the long run, you'll ever regret a single moment you've spent communicating with them. Here you can find friends and peers that you may never find in the workplace, even if you never meet. That's unique, and to me that's the most important feature of CodeProject.com. Good luck, and do check in once in a while... "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9

A global community is nothing more and nothing less. You will get slapped by the guru's ( and quite frankly it can be worthwhile ) You will find a barrel full of people that disagree with you, and in some cases do so with venom. Take note of the people that count (you call them guru's - I call them CPians). You had the good manners to say goodbye, and for that sir, you stand high. For your list (Nish) add: Marc Clifton, Michael Dunn, PJ Naughter and Chris FF9933 (garn the Warratahs) as a minimum. Best of luck, pop past again and may you life be all you could wish. THANK YOU

I dont want to be misunderstood by anyone Let me be more specific. For more than two years I have been seeing codeproject regularly. But untill I started going through lounge and soapbox I used to open CP only the when the programmer in me arises. But then I started to open CP at the very first moment when I log into the system, and it will be kept minimized on my desktop(This has become a habbit and..sorry I cant change it).I will close CP only when I shut down my system .And I repeat these forums will truely mould you as a real global citizen

It was not intentional,I know there are many guys whose names should have been mentioned.... like marc cliffon,David Stone, codeforg etc..I mentioned Nish's name only because yesterday we did really had an ideological clash in his thread of "language barrier". And I did say that its only because of my personal traits I am moving out of these forums. (i used to spent more time in wikipedia than doing coding) But I would regularly read each and every post of lounge and soapbox.Again I need not repeat the uses of it which most of you are aware of. I hope this would be my last post. Now I will go back to my original postiton of a silent spectator of Lounge and Soapbox. -- modified at 7:03 Saturday 6th May, 2006

Are you sure about that quote? Thought it was something more like, “I suddenly had all of these house guests, some house broken some not, need a place to keep them, thus the Lounge and Soapbox where born”

Hi, Sad to hear that you are leaving. But believe me when I say that it is the Lounge and the SoapBox that makes CodeProject the coolest place to hangout in the cyber world. Ofcourse there are many forums where questions are asked and answered, but where do you think can you post something like ..."I hate my Boss" or "How long does a sperm take to reach an egg?" ;P and get answers from a programmer's perpective? Even I have loads of work, impossible deadlines and a nagging boss :sigh: but every once in a while (about ummmm  3 to 4 times a day), I check out the Lounge and SoapBox for interesting posts. It relaxes me a lot ;) and never fails to bring a smile to my face. Although I am not a guru and have broken the Golden "Do not post programming Questions in the Lounge" Rule  , I just love it here. So, my advice is, do come, once in a while, coz if you don't then you will be missing out on one of the best communities in the programming world. Hurray Code Project!!!! :) --- With best regards, A Manchester United Fan The Genius of a true fool is that he can mess up a foolproof plan!
