MCPD

I'm thinking of taking an "MCPD: Enterprise Applications Developer" course. Currently there's only one college in Israel that offers this course, the others still offer MCAD and MCSD. I was wondering if I should get the new certification? Is it going to replace the old one? Isaac Sasson "I hate it. Java sucks. And Java's generics suck harder. What's your purpose or goal? Personal enrichment or are you trying to improve your pedigree to earn a raise or promotion? This information is helpful in making decisions like this. To often people ask this question and it's tough. As you word it I read as you are asking which is better a hammer or a nail-gun? My immediate thought is, "Better for what? What are you going to do?". - Rex :-D

Same thing here in Germany, therefore I'll first make my MCAD, then MCSD and then later the upgrade for the MCPD. I really hope that C++/CLI exams are available anytime soon, ASP.NET and the other required exams are just a waste of time.

Well I guess it's a little of both. Right now I hold a nice position in a totally unrelated job (not programming). So I hope to learn in the meantime both for my personal knowledge and maybe in the future for work (independent or hired). I guess I'd like to learn in an organized fashion for once instead of being self taught. Isaac Sasson "I hate it. Java sucks. And Java's generics suck harder. Have you made any exams yet? Because they are meant to certify your knowledge, not to teach you programming. Sure, you learn a lot, but without a background in Windows/Web/Database programming you we'll more than likely be lost there. Just my .02

I was talking about take a course, not the exams right away. And I have a fair background in programming VB, VC++, DirectX, ASP and SQL. Isaac Sasson "I hate it. Java sucks. And Java's generics suck harder. And in general, Java just sucks." - David Stone, The Lounge (May 1st 2006)

Having had years of classroom instruction and then working on my own... You'll always be self-taught as nothing you learn in class applies directly. You'll have to abstract what you learned in class to apply it to present day. (You know this but I'm still just pointing it out.) I'd say go for the new one over the old one. But do some research on the content. I'm going to bet that there's about 95% of the old one in the new one.
