Laptop keeps losing its Power scheme...
-
My laptop (some crappy Eurocom thing running XP Pro SP2) has recently started to lose its power scheme every time I use it. Any custom setting I specify in the Power Options control panel applet simply doesn't stick, even if I save a custom scheme and reload it--that is, it keeps reverting to the default values every time I power it up. Particularly annoying is the fact that my "Do nothing" preference under "When I close the lid of my portable computer" dropdown is ignored and the default ("Stand by") takes place, which means having to wait for it to power back up, re-establish my internet connection, reconnect to it from my remote machines, etc. Anyone else has seen this, or better yet, know of a fix?

Are you running as a limited user (i.e. Non-administrator). If so that's your issue. Do a search for LUA and laptop and it should take you to the correct sites. Jared Parsons jaredp@beanseed.org http://jaredparsons.blogspot.com/[^]

I find stuff like this common on crappy hardware... A fresh install (off the XP disc, not oem restore) of XP would probably do the trick quite nicely. But I would recommend that more-so if you were having more problems. Matt Newman

But I would recommend that more-so if you were having more problems. Thing is, I've had the same OS installed on it since day one (well over a year ago) and have been seeing this problem only for the past month or so. Well, what the hell, it needs a good scrubing anyway...
