Yeah. The downside of it is, IMO, the lack of RAIDed hard drives. It's only got a single 100 GB 7,200 RPM (or 120 GB 5,400 RPM X|) hard drive.

find one of the new core duo's, they were released last month in limited release, but can be had online. It's a Centrino dual core with some desktop features without the heat. The desktop version of the same processor will be the core 2 duo released in June, but the laptop will be healthy. I expect so, they "should" have the same options of the existing Centrino's. Just drop the Intel Graphics and go with the add-on graphics card either ATI or nVidia and you should be able to go almost as high as the desktop chip does. yup: just peeked: at Dell[^] the graphics options go up as high as 7900 512Mb, so you pretty much choose as much as you want to pay. _________________________ Asu no koto o ieba, tenjo de nezumi ga warau. Hopefully this thread will stay on the front page for a while over the weekend. ;) I need some suggestions from the CP readership for a new laptop. It will be used for running XP and Vista and doing VC development. My budget is $3000. There are three must-have requirements: Video must be good enough for Vista glass to work. Gaming perf is not important since I don't play PC games anymore. Machine must be quiet (Alienwares that use desktop CPUs are out due to their fan noise) Must have a DVI out (I'll be using this machine as a desktop replacement and connected to my LCD monitor). [edit]Requirement 4: Not a Mac ;)[/edit] Aside from that, I'm pretty much open. Dual core/HT CPU is preferable but not a requirement. I've had IBM T42 p -- w/ mobile processor for the past couple of years .. I've been really happy with it. I'm running VS 2003, 2005, SQL server 2000, IIS, TomCat, MySql, media player, few IE windows all with 1 GB RAM running on Win2k3 OS. No problems so far, and the fan is also very quite. You can get this HW config for less than 1500 these days. - Malhar

The build quality on HP Professional/Business Lappies is very good, I have two Omnibook 6100's which are simply amazing, and they are both nearly five years old. That being said, a lot has changed since they were new, including merger of HP & Compaq: but from what I have seen, on the business notebook front, HP won out in the merger. NC 8430[^]was just announced last week, and keeps me up at night dreaming about the day I can walk around with that kind of horsepower, in a business notebook chasis (until you have owned one, you wouldn't know what I am talking about!). Most important thing about this unit: Intel Core Duo combined with ATI Radeon X1600 256mb graphics .... !!!! It will score over 4500 on 3DMark05. The difference between 'consumer' & 'business' notebooks is substantial: business notebooks are built for use: I think consumer notebooks are just built for the occasional use. DVI available on Docking Station...
