The MacBook has landed

Apple have done what I was hoping and have released a 13.3" MacBook[^]. Pretty decent price too, from $1099 for an Intel Core Duo 1.83Ghz, 512Mb RAM, 60Gb HD. I'd go for the 2.0Ghz with 1Gb RAM though as it has the DVD writer. That comes in at $1,399. Not bad for a Mac. My only gripes are the low-speed HD (5400RPM and no 7200RPM option) and the integrated graphics system. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

But in India(or in my friend circle) I've hardly seen anyone talking about MACs . I dont know why. :~ If at all they find one, they look at it as if they've spotted something in the museum. All they talk about is INTEL PENTIUM + MICROSOFT WINDOWS . Now only they've started talking about ADM, LINUX.

I want a portable laptop. Something I can stuff into almost any bag and not worry about. I currently have a 15.4" HP laptop and the thing is a right pain. You have to man handle it, it doesn't fit into most bags and it is weighty. I have a desktop machine for work with a nice big screen so this laptop wouldn't be my dev machine. It is for everything else outside of the office. I want a laptop that is like an A4 pad of paper to carry around. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry!

The only thing stopping me from getting a Mac is the company's arrogance. I really dislike those Mac commercials (the Mac with Intel chip ones, and the nerdy business PC guy vs the cool hipster Mac guy) that assume we have all forgotten Apple's old marketing claims about how terrible the Intel chips were compared to the G4 processors. :rolleyes:

I was considering one; esp since I am a closet unix geek. But, the inergrated graphics is IMO a deal breaker. Not that I may need better performace from the graphics system; I just want the flexability if I decided to up and boot XP and play Oblivion like I can on my current HP notebook. Color me disappointed. Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton

For one Oblivion dosen't run on the intergrated chip. It does run well on my Hp wich has a mobile ATI chip. I installed boot camp on my wifes core-duo mac min. I tried to play oblivion but it would either crash or hang at start-up. I don't play a lot of games. Although it's a bit bigger, that's what I like about my 14" iBook - also the speed of wake-up. The new MacBook's have got better screen resolution than my iBook as well - hmmmph, tech envy coming on :-)
