Statistically, atteactive people get better jobs, more money, get sick less often and are less prone to mental diseases. But no, looks don't matter at all.

Looks matter to some more than others for better and for worse. Some people will think you are stupid if you are good looking (pretty boy or the blonde effect) while others will ignore you if you are not one of the "beautiful people". The lesson is that it is you who has to come to grips with your own looks and that it is you who has to first acknowledge what matters, your skills. You are asking for a job after all. If you come across someone that does not get it, you may be better off without them. That said, dress and behave professionally... and expect the same.

If you are referring to software developers? nature and attitude yes. looks no. Nature: You want critical thinkers and problem solvers. You don't want someone that figures out one way to solve a problem and considers their job done. You want someone that asks questions, that attempts to turn over every rock and look into every dark corner. You don't want someone that makes assumptions. Attitude: You want positive, confident, self motivated people that work well with others. You don't want cocky, lazy, good enough for government work people. If you find two candidates that have the exact same experience and are identical in all of these other attributes but one looks better than the other, send your story to Ripleys Believe It Or Not. Because I don't believe it.

Good looks and Smart dressing are two different things, if i hire a person *looks* doesn't matter but smart dressing always makes an impact. besides a bit of grooming always makes you look good (no matter how ugly you think you are)

It's not really funny, in the development game, people have a natural tedency to think you are a cowboy if you are a 'pretty boy' (not that I am a model, but I dont quite have the normal conservative look, in fact I probably look like a cowboy, all rough).**

I say if the situation is as you describe and both candidates are equal. Then go with your personal preference. I'd rather work (and I mean do real work, critical thinking) with someone who just wanted to work to. Not someone who is also overly concerned with how they look. I'm all for practical but the notion of "attractiveness" has no reason to be in the work place at all. Harassment will soon follow in some form or another. - Rex

Why do you equate bald with boring ? If two candidates were the same in all other aspects, I'd take into account how they are likely to fit in to the team, so boring would be a minus. Bald, I could care less about. Well, that depends on so many factors... Remember, not only are you be hired for your skillsets, but also for your ability to play nice and work well with others.

Tell me this : You are in the interview panel, Two girls come in , Both of them have excellent skills. But one of them looks very attractive and the other looks average. Now whom do you select? But imagine another situation. One girl is beautiful, but no stuff (skill!) Another is Average, but excellent skill. Here, people'd only go in for the latter one. But, may be in my company, If I sit in the interview panel, I'd choose the former(atleast one!), Cuz here its going colorless daybyday :(..!
