"Fade to Black" - Metallica Anyone else feel this way? I hadn't heard it in a couple years. Just finished ripping my cd collection, and it came up on my mp3 player this morning. Must have listened to it 5 or 6 times in a row. I had forgotten how much of an effect that song had on me as a kid - it was the one tune I always relied on when things got bad. I still remember sitting for hours with my guitar trying to learn that opening lead.

"Hallelujah" sang by Jeff Buckley always sends shivers down my spine. However, my "greatest song ever" changes depending on my mood, or which band I am most into at the moment. :) If you listen to anything often enough, you'll probably get bored of it.

hmm. for me, learning a song always sucks a bit of the magic out of it. friday night, i grabbed my guitar and started playing the Stones' "Start Me Up". turns out, it's probably the easiest song ever written, ever. but i'd never thought of trying to play it before. and now that i know how simple it is, i can't help but think "damn. these guys are barely even trying!" which isn't to say Fade To Black is simple, of course :) Cleek | Image Toolkits | Thumbnail maker

I got that same feeling when I started learning jazz, but (esp with Coltrane) it quickly turned into how is he playing that over the chords I just learned. It's kind of like debugging somone else's code - even if it's simple, you get a glimpse into the mind of the creator (although that's not always a good thing)

Very true. "If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done." - Peter Ustinov

My all time favorite, for quite some time, has been "Letdown", by Radiohead, off their 1997 "Ok Computer". Not quite sure what it is about that song, but it always give me goosebumps.

"Take Five" - Dave Brubeck Quartet. And I'm listening it now, again.:) Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons. Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970) Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it. George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950) Patriotism is often an arbitrary veneration of real estate above principles. George Jean Nathan (1882 - 1958) Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. One of my favorites was Bob Segar's Turn The Page, until Metallica got their grubby mitts on it and sucked all the feeling out of it. I dig James and the boys, but they really should not cover tunes outside of the hard rock/metal genre. I don't have a greatest song ever, but these 3 always demand my attention and can take me somewhere else no matter what I'm doing: What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong Come Rain or Come Shine by Johnny Mercer, current favorite arrangement by BB King/Clapton Georgia on my Mind by Ray Charles BW

Seriously? He should have played it off by pointing the microphone at the audience. I've seen them once, on their Kid-A tour. The last time they came around here (Atlanta), the tickets were upwards of $60, and I just didn't have that kind of cash to spend on a concert at that point. I'm hoping they come through Atlanta on the new album's tour. I'd like to see them again. -- Russell Morris Morbo: "WINDMILLS DO NOT WORK THAT WAY!"
