I admit to not doing much more than tinkering with my network until it works. I have 3 PCs on my desk, two notebooks and my desktop. The main notebook talks to the desktop, as the desktop is my VSTS server. I've finally registered Windows Server, and suddenly the notebook cannot see the server anymore, even though the other notebook can. No network settings have changed on the notebook as far as I can see, the wireless can see and is connected to my network, but can't see any computers on it. Where should I expect to be able to go to fix this ? Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++

try unregistering the notebook from the workgroup/domain, then re-registering to the workgroup/domain again. you may have to reboot after. i had this same issue with a 2003 server, and this resolved it for me. nicko

Thanks - as it happens, I thought of that, but my notebook is still registered on the domain of my (ex) job. I need the admin password to unregister ( how stupid is that ? ). I'll go in to work today and get them to do that for me. Christian Graus - Microsoft MVP - C++

My peculiar network behaviour was cause by . . . Norton Antivirus. (A 3-month free subscription which came with my wife's new laptop.) Sometimes I could see PC1 from PC2, sometimes I could see PC2 from PC1, but never both at the same time. No apparent reason. Life became much simpler once the subscription ran out and I uninstalled NAV completely. I can now share directories again. Bliss.

I believe the reasoning behind that is so you can’t just unregister it from the domain in an attempt to usurp user privileges.

I'd love to help, but unfortunatley I have prior commitments monitoring the length of my grass. :Andrew Bleakley:
