Fedora Core 5

Well I have decided to try to install it and config it, and play with it.. maybe even try to set up that beowulf cluster of atomic supermen. Nah... I just want to start messing around with Asterisk and figured that FC5 looks like the simplest thing to get running :) Anyone out there playing with Linux recently? I also figured that this would be a decent change to give Mono a try.

I'm always into playing with Linux. It's a fun tool. As far as threads go I found this one to be pretty good. http://www.codeproject.com/lounge.asp?msg=1497208&Page=4&userid=440521&mode=all#xx1497208xx[^] Maybe Shog or David would know if there would be some way to script CPhog to store a query for Linux related posts. It would be kind of cool. Aside from that if you search the lounge for Linux you'll get about 10 hits for each month. Some good some not so good. - Rex

Welcome to CP in your language. Post the unicode version in My CP Blog [ ^ ] now.People who don't understand how awesome Firefox is have never used CPhog[^]CPhog. The act of using CPhog (Firefox)[^] alone doesn't make Firefox cool. It opens your eyes to the possibilities and then you start looking for other things like CPhog (Firefox)[^] and your eyes are suddenly open to all sorts of useful things all through Firefox. - (Self Quote)

Well, I have it installed and I am logged in to CP via Firefox 1.5... Not sure I like it... Firefox seems to render things quite different.. Can't put my finger on it but I am not sure it is the same as IE... Running it on a P4 Celeron with 256 Meg of Ram. Seems a bit sluggish. [EDIT] ok, holly crap... sluggish is NOT The proper word... Hellishly slow is the proper word. I fired up Eclipse to see what all the hub bub was about and man oh man it took FOREVER to load. It also took forever to install. About 3 times longer than Windows XP ever has. [EDIT]

The most likely difference is the fonts. For some reason, I can never get used the inconsistencies (especially in KDE). Alex Korchemniy

We have a FC4 server running. I want to upgrade to FC5, but the disk images (disk 2,3,4) are too big to fit on a CD. I tried 3 different CD writers. So for the moment we are sticking with FC4 until we can get these images on to CD. Asterisk is seriously cool ! Good luck.

It's rendering it correctly ;P

Well I'm running it on an AthlonXP 1800+ (~1.2GHz) and it's fine, did fire up Eclipse though on FC4 and it didn't take any longer than Open Office 2. It might make a difference if you're running Gnome or KDE.

I'm going to install the new Ubuntu relaese (released yesterday) in the next couple of weeks...

Not "playing" - I actually work on it (SUSE 10.0). It is slow, unstable, changes too often, and development tools suck, but can be kind of fun if you are not in a hurry to get your job done.

It looks cool that's for sure. I have a large PBX integration background and am going to take a stab at becoming a member of the Asterisk business program. Doing my part to help SMBs get into the VoIP space (oh yeah and to make a bit of cash on the side too :) )

I had some compatibiligy issues with FC 5. Several RPMs that were installed with FC 4 by default are not so in FC 5. Just something to watch out for.
