yeah. that's what i do - my laptop doesn't have any dev tools on it at all. i can do email or surf, but i can't write any code. that also gives me a way to test things on a machine that has never had VS installed on it, when i am writing code. Cleek | Image Toolkits | Thumbnail maker

Whooo hoooo! No work next week! Going to take my little ones and throw them into the Atlantic Ocean (not very far), build sand castles, drink much fluids, and otherwise have a fantastic time. Hard decision - take or leave the laptop? :) Charlie Gilley Will program for food... Whoever said children were cheaper by the dozen... lied. My son's PDA is an M249 SAW.

 that's just too funny. The good news is that my wife is as big a laptop addict as I am... we probably both need therapy... Charlie Gilley Will program for food... Whoever said children were cheaper by the dozen... lied. My son's PDA is an M249 SAW.

We are off to Pawley's Island, South Carolina, about 30 minutes south of Myrtle Beach. I have enough room for the horde, just off the beach, and there is enough to do in the area to keep a wide range of ages entertained. A little rafting in the waves, sand castles, outdoor surf and turf sessions, and ahem, beverages. Charlie Gilley Will program for food... Whoever said children were cheaper by the dozen... lied. What, you can't write code on a barebones Windows system?  You call yourself a programmer :suss:?

Leave the freakin laptop, why are you even asking? ;P Do you think a lumberjack goes on holiday with his axe? Or a garbage man goes on vacation with his work gloves?

I bet a movie producer would not want to watch a movie on vacation. A mechanic and a car are not the same as a programmer and a laptop. A mechanic and a car diagnosis machine or a mechanic and his wrenches might be a better analogy. The idea of a vacation is to get away from what you normally do for a rest.

                        > Not much of a mechanic then is he? Huh? It's called a healthy dose of paranoia. A good mechanic won't blindly trust a car not to encounter mechanical failures during a trip where you drive a few thousand miles in hot summer weather and carrying a heavy load in the trunk/trailer/whatever. A good mechanic would rather pack a few basic tools and hope not to have to use them, than have to call an expensive tow truck to ruin a vacation when a quick and simple fix he could've done himself would've sufficed, had he just brought those few basic tools.

I'm not sure how it relates to the gist of my post; the programmer going on vacation isn't going to need to fix his software to get from point a to point b. I guess it's true what they say that car analogies for computers never really fit.

Or use GPS - the "new-fangled" :) ones provide a great listing of hotels, nearby restaurants, theaters, etc in their "entertainment" section. Plus directions to get to the locations, obviously! I was ambivalent when my husband decided to purchase ours, but quickly became converted to a true-believer in their usefullness. So leave the laptop, and get a GPS! blueSprite:rose:
