Pretty bigoted behavior, wouldn't you say? Can't be contaminated with those who might think differently. The evolution of the human genome is too important to be left to chance.

Good thing his Christian friends turned him in, thereby demonstrating that Christians are anti-terror and capable of self-regulating their crazies. Now if only those terror-stopping Christians could teach the Muslim world to behave with civility.

And what the hell do you know about Muslims? Are you suggesting that Muslims never turn in terrorists to the authorities? You are so biased and your opinions so rigid I really don't know why I bother. You are the Soapbox's poster boy for everything that's bad about the US. Steve

Will everyone except espeir please ignore this: Fuck off you brainless twit! I'm sick to death of your ignorant stereotyping and blatant trolling. On this one I agree with espeir. You seem to be going out of you way to bash Christians, maybe you don't realize it???? My mom told me once that "while we all don't speak the same language, everyone in the world undestands an asskicking"

Espeir made the comparison with a single news story as his "proof" of Christian superiority. I merely pointed out another single recent piece of news that on the surface (and my "on the surface" comment is important here so remember it) showed that maybe... just maybe... every Muslim on the planet isn't a heartless murdering fiend.

Let's see...we have one news story in the past decade where some Christian nut threatens to blow up a pipe bomb in an abortion clinic...Then his Christian friends turn him in. You don't find that evidencary of my claim? Meanwhile millions of Muslims wage war on millions of innocent civilian non-Muslims and you try to equate the two.

So when a Christian does something he's a "nut" but if a Muslim does he's a terrorist? Steve

You guys just don't get it. I WASN'T COMPARING CHRISTIANITY AND ISLAM!!!!!!!! I WAS USING A BAD ANECDOTAL NEWS STORY TO SHOW ESPEIR THAT USING A SINGLE ANECDOTE TO MAKE SWEEPING GENERALIZATIONS CAN BE VERY, VERY WRONG!!!! Dear gawd! Read what I write and don't let your paranoia cloud my words. If I've learned anything from this thread it is that severe knee-jerk reactions among the christian right-wing crowd are alive and well. Hell, it wasn't that long ago I was called "right-wing nut-job" almost daily here in the SB. Now I'm considered liberal, a leftist and a terrorist apologist simply because I'm not Christian and/or you folks are paranoid. Geeesh! I saw a bumper sticker the other day. It read, "Dear God, Please protect me from your followers." As one of the "followers" I had to hang my head in shame. I really regret a lot of things that get done in the name of Christianity. But hey, what do I expect. We had a perfect leader and we nailed him to a tree. I think both Espeir and you have made your points and are now beating a very dead horse. There are contexts in which each of you are exactly right and there are other contexts where both of you are glaringly wrong. You both already understand those reasons. Why are you still kicking the heck out of each other. In many ways you share the same view you just word it differently. I think this is why I don't come down here very much. The fact that "Anything Goes" means it almost always does and when it does go rationallity seems to follow. This comment is not directed at anyone just soapbox posts in general. I'm ashamed of many of the acts that Christians have done in the world. What shames me most is that in making that statement I have no choice but to include myself. Take it easy guys and have a good night. - Rex

For the last fucking time: Espeir used one (1) anecdote to make a sweeping generalization about christianity. He does this all the time on any number of topics (immigration, politics, etc...) I think doing that is prone to error. So I used one (1) anecdote (that I knew was a bad example) to refute his claim. Not because I believe that he was wrong necessarily but simply to show him that using a single anecdote proves nothing since my anecdote proved nothing. My comments were neither pro-Muslim or anti-Christian. Religion just happened to be the subject at hand. It could of just as easily been another topic.

On the contrary, I believe they understood what you meant perfectly. When you show an obstinate bigot their hypocrisy they tend to get pretty upset about it. Especially when you use it to publically make fun of them at the same time. Stan's response to this very post of yours is proof of that. Still, if nothing else, it is reassuring to know that these people are having their little ego wars on here rather than being out in the real world where you or I might accidentally meet them.

You immediately jump in and say "Oh no, Islam is the same because one of them turned Zarquari in". Thats drawing a parallel. The two religions are very, very different in how they respond to extremist in their own midst, and if you would stop being so knee-jerk anti-Chrisitan you would appreciate that.

NO! This kind of ongoing bullshit needs to be forcefully confronted. To dismiss the behavior of Islamic civilization as being nothing more than the paranoid delusions of uneducated western bigots must stop.

And that generalization is absolutely valid. It is so clearly and obviously true, so demonstratable true, that to not see it for what it is requires far more than just wearing blinders, it requires wearing glasses that completely and utterly reverse the reality of the world around us. Our society cleans up its extremists - their's doesn't. If their's did, there would have been no 9/11, there would be no Muslims terrorism killing people all over the fucking planet. There is something very, very wrong with Islamic civilization. They have problems which simply do not exist in our civilization - anywhere. There are no moral or cultural parallels of any kind. When such problems do emerge among us, they are immediately dealt with. Islam obviously does not have the will or the ability to remedy those problems the way we do. It is our obligation, our responsibility to do it for them or else we are going to have our own civilization ripped out from underneath us one 9/11 at a time. That isn't bigotry, it isn't xenophobia, it isn't racism, it isn't cultural emperialsm, it isn't paranoia or ignorance of any kind. It is a practical, common sense, cleared eyed, intellectually valid, and open minded conclusion based on readily available information and facts so far beyond refutation that they stand like a Mt. Everest of political reality right in the middle of modern human civilization. "You get that which you tolerate"

Most of the people I discuss this with in the real world, agree with me. Especially those from places like India and Indonesia who confront the truth about Islam in a far more intimate way than you have or would ever be willing to - regarless of the fact that you once met a really nice Muslim down at the local Mosque. Why not? If he had a bumper sticker saying "Allah Akhbar" instead of one saying "God is pro-life", I think it would obviously be part of the story. The fact this guy in Maryland was doing it for religious reasons provides the backdrop for the story. If he wes just planning to bomb places at random for no other reason than he is a nutjob, that would be very different.

Ed,its quiete obvious. You wouldnt find any thing here which tells his belief or family background because he was not a muslim.Let a muslim do something evil and every media will label him as a Muslim Terrorist rather just a terrorist. Why would they say something bad to their own ppl. This discrimination is not different than discrimination between black and white in US which wold observers during katrina storm.
