Maybe this is a question with an obvious answer, but why do all the brilliant folks do all the work that keeps them behind the scenes and out of the spotlight (coders included), but those like Britney Spears are all out there wiggling their bodies in front of the masses. In a way it seems backwards that the public hardly ever gets to see the magic of intelligence...but then it looks like too many are blind to it and need us to keep their world from falling to pieces like an egg shell and exposing them to reality... My words might be a bit harsh but they are said in context of honesty rather than to offend. I've just noticed that CP is full of intelligent people with open minds that you wouldn't always meet elsewhere, people whose brains are put to work daily and relax by brain activity as well... I don't know what else to say, but i know someone else will add whatever has slipped out of my mind Roswell :)

For me (not saying I'm brilliant or anything), I prefer to just keep working and get the job done without fuss. If other people want to waste time playing up to the crowds, that's their choice. Intelligent people are often very driven, in that once they put their mind to something, it is very hard to distract them. People who, well, aren't quite so intelligent, tend to get distracted very easily.

I think you gave too much into the stereotype! How do you know, for instance, that Britney is not a bright girl? She move her ass in front of the crowd? Well that's what it takes to get the money, it's not non-sensical! I think it's more like: you can't glimpse at the intellignce just by looking at someone playing the peacok. Doesn't mean one is clueless, just mean one can't see in such circumstances!

Good point...i haven't thought of that because it seemed to me that they are focused on other things that they don't find boring...but to me those things too superficial and focused on entertainment rather improvement or planning for the future, though I suppose they make a perfect consumer... but i guess in the end one reason i posted this thread is i always wonder why not too many people find me interesting to talk to but when it comes time for work instead of fun for them they find me with all kinds of questions. I read a lot and keep myself busy with things that other people find boring, but then if i search hard enough there are people outside of the main stream that i have no trouble getting along with like you guys. I come from a family of engineers and maybe that's my problem... i really hate when people see a problem and automatically give up thinking its too hard...and people that have to be shielded from real life, that come unglued when it's not fun(their definition of course) anymore... It just looks like some people build lives and others live them. I'm not trying to say that i'm one of the 'brilliant', but i do imply that it prefer to be around people like that because it's a challenge for the mind, another problem to be solved and ideas to be shared...in a wayjust like here at CP Roswell

My view is there are different spotlight for each of us. Coders like us for example, our spotlight is among ourselves. Your hardwork or intelligence will be recognised by fellow coders or colleagues in your department. People from other department doing different things will have their own spotlight.

true she is the integral part of someone's marketing machine and it took some skill to find her too. I realize that she has to spend many hours a day working out, practicing and rehearsing to be in the shape she is in and be capable of what she does...but i really do blame the audience for its tastes and the fads it falls for, not the ones that cater to them. I just wish people were more interested in science and progress but i do accept them as they are. I do wish they were more optimistic and aware of those around them. And i also do realize that i was born too late to see that kind of a mindset be the main stream. Roswell

And i'll make it clear that i'm not looking for spotlight, but i'm trying to vent my frustration instead. Sometimes a thought comes to my mind that makes me see it all this way and it's impossible to ignore. i don't either, but look at all the bugs plastered to my window from the outside hoping to reach the lamp on my desk...but out of their ignorance they keep yearning for the 'spotlight' banging their heads against the glass pane...it's the same with people..and i have to disagree with their values...to tell the truth it simply makes me sad that they have all the world made for them to live in and they don't make a single step towards seeing the reality before it hits them in the face... Hey I hate Brad Pitt but adore Angelina ;) (probably because I am a guy) same way you can look at Brad pitt instead of Britney. ;) I think you have good personality, initiate the conversation yourself. At first you may find it awkword but you will find more and more interesting people interact with you. My sister too tried it. She was so reserved and a loner. Now she is in a HR firm and I dont believe , she is so outgoing today. pathak

F**k this society. I have been coding all along. I dont have social life. My marital life is in shambles. No friends. I watch TV in my spare time. I go alone for shopping or to watch movies. I feel inferior, insecure. I am a loner. Nobody loves me , o r loves to talk to me. they gets bores by me easily. I dont have god physique. But certainly not suicidal 'cos All I think is of dot net and the next great assignment my boss has promised me. SOmetimes I feel though, I should have more friends and miss my college and childhood days. But I am happy with myself. I enjoy myself. I am happiest when noone is around. marcoslav

I hope you don't infect others with your thoughts;P As I'm not a programmer like most people here, I learned here very much from others, who write articles, sample-codes and any more. And recently I 2 times got help in the message-board for questions that have been realy stupid. Maybe in 10 or 20 years I'll be also able to help someone in this community:confused: (even if I don't think so:^)). But if this would be, then I could pay back something of what I got here. So thanks and :rose::rose::rose: to anyone here who helps people like me, Gerard
