Strange. I've never had any of the problems you mentioned. It's never corrupted email for me, and I've been running it for over a year now. Have you tried reinstalling it? Not sure why anyone would vote you a 1 for that... :sigh:

Yep. I downloaded it again too incase I somehow managed to get some dodgy install that someone had been playing with. Perhaps it is something else on my machine that is messing with it but considering that all I installed before I installed AVG was Visual Studio, Office and Firefox I don't see what it could be - it was a clean install of Windows XP Pro SP 2. That's almost the same configuration as my machine, except I don't have Office. I don't see how that could affect it though. Are you using Outlook for email? I'm using Thunderbird without problems. I can't remember if I used AVG while I was still using Outlook or not.

I use AVG. It works really well and isn't ridiculously bloated like some others. The updates literally take a couple of seconds on my machine. I've never had any problems with it. Thoroughly recommended! :)

Am I the only person on the planet that thinks AVG is a pile of crap. It continually hangs and/or crashes when scanning incoming mail, the email proxy it uses even corrupts mail for me sometimes. Sure, it's light when you are talking about scanning the hard drives and real-time protection but I'm much more concerned about having safe email scanning that works and AVG doesn’t do that IMHO - crashes half the time when scanning email... anybody else have this problem? I've used it for years, but on the recent version I disabled the auto email checking because it was far too slow.

I am in a dillema. I just bought a Lenovo Notebook but don't know which Anti Virus to use. Norton is out of the question coz I really hate it. I believe AVG is a good choice as its free and good too. Do you all have any suggestions? Any good lightweight Antivirus with a pricetag that doesn't burn a hole in my pocket? :) --- With best regards, A Manchester United Fan The Genius of a true fool is that he can mess up a foolproof plan!

I'm using BitDefender on 3 machines and think it is fantastic. I recommend giving it a go. Well, the SpamKiller from McAfee hoses my mail or system about once a month, so I guess I DO have the same problem, just not with the same software. Now my computer constantly tries to retrieve e-mail from the server at 127.0.0.1 ! Go figure... I've seen better runs in my shorts! - Patches O'Houlihan

In order of preference: McAfee AVG ZoneLabs Panda BitDefender Product of Last Resort -> Norton Actually the most important is to put and AV on. Next pick a spyware or two. Being sumwhat paranoid, I actually use both McAfee and ZoneLabs products, and use two spyware, but my job takes me to many sites of risk. Cheers

You'd rate Panda above Norton? At least Norton allows your PC to work! Last time I tried to use Panda (clean machine, totally fine otherwise) it suffered RPC Server Failures whenever you tried to log on to Windows! One jolly trip into safe mode later to remove Panda and *tada* no more RPC failure

Yep, I do not consider Symantec products to be secure. Sort of like saying that the default install of windows produces a secure enviroment. But that is only my opinion. Feel free to choose your own path. Cheers
