GO USA!!!! (Soccer Alert)

Unfortunately, it wasn't a US player. :sigh: Great game, though! BW

I didn't see it. I can't get into soccer. It seems that the players must have a degree in theatrical performance to be allowed to play. It's just pathetic to watch the acting that goes on. IMO, it destroys the game's credibility.

They should change the rules a bit. Having a video camera that records the game, or using the footage from televisions camera to replay suspicious or hard to judge events I think would be a good idea. It's pathetic to see a player fall and roll over eight times because the other player touched his arm. regards, Mircea Many people spend their life going to sleep when they’re not sleepy and waking up while they still are.

There is a soccer history that the US does not really have and that does not put it among the greats.
You don't need history - you need ability. Many of the players in the US team are, admitedly, playing in leagues in more football oriented countries, so they get exposure to a higher quality game and so they can quietly ascend the ranks without anyone really paying much attention. USA's current ranking may be a quirk of the maths, but enjoy it while you're there (and think of my team stuck way down at 59th position)

For sure. But fluke and inconsistent "good results" ain't enough. The history of a team matters... in soccer or in formula1.

And, hopefully, there will be a time when great foreign soccer players are brought to play in local US teams and leagues, raising the overall level of the game at home. We need support beyond a few passionate isolates.

I gotta say, I've never understood the politics behind breaking up the british players into four teams. Together you would be a force to reckon with.

USA is giving the Azzurri a run for their money !! Match is tied 1 - 1 at half time. Good that the so-called Pundits who predicted a big Italy win were proved wrong .... With a bit of luck can USA win the match ???!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, may the team that played the best *today* win!
Remember that all the goals were made by Italy. What a game, really. :-D _____________________________________________ Tozzi is right: Gaia is getting rid of us. My Blog [ITA] - Developing ScrewTurn Wiki 0.2a...

While the USA was busy getting its independence, Scotland had just lost hers. It breaks the tension a bit. I'd rather be in 59th place with a small taste of independence than assimilated into a British team.

Everybody who is into soccer is pissed off by it, too. I guess what gets you into soccer is playing it as a kid. All you need is a ball and at least one friend. No installment, just a yard, and some rubbish to mark the goal (and quick feet in case you hit a window  )

Except the players :sigh: I'd really like to see a rule brought in such that anyone who claims an "injury" should be sent off the ground for medical treatment for at least 2 minutes. See how many of them keep acting after that :)

Ok, I'll trade you the "no acting" rule for the offside rule. I'm sure people will love that ;)

 exactly what I had in mind. It's the one really ugly thing, because it's so hard to judge, and is per definition in a critical moment of the game. (The first two games were really a pain...) I already suggested to make it a bit simpler: Three times in the game, the goal keeper may punch the person next to him as hard as he likes. Will mkae them think twice about hanging out to close  When you play for plays sake, the offside rule is simple: "You can't stand there all the time!" Ah those were the days...

:) To be honest, i know very few people who find anything i do as exciting as getting teeth pulled. Heck, even getting a tonsillectomy has turned out to be a better conversation starter...

I gave you a 5, not because I love soccer, but because I'm sick and tired of all the World Cup fans dismissing the U.S. team's participation.

Don't you remember my post when the USA was playing the Czech Republic (I think, I was so pissed I can't remember)? I was more than supportive and didn't write you off. Michael Martin Australia "I controlled my laughter and simple said "No,I am very busy,so I can't write any code for you". If it wasn't for the many finnochio's taking swan dives to impress the referee, the USA may well have won it. There was a report in the media here in Australia quoting the U.S. coach, Bruce Arena, as saying that Australia were only there to make up the numbers. At the time we were at the top of our group and the U.S. was at the bottom of theirs. What goes around..... Objects in mirror are closer than they appear

It is quite simple. The England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland each have their own football associations and leagues, not to mention over a hundred years of history. The first ever international football match was between England and Scotland. We have been fierce rivals ever since.
DaTxomin wrote:

That might have been true in the past, but currently I can't think of a single player from Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland that would be considered good enough to replace a member of the current England squad. Words fade as the meanings change, but somehow, it don't bother me.
