Hello all, I asked a question in the forums yesterday about how to go about setting up an online web community. I appreciate the help. Now I'm wondering if the folks in the lounge could suggest a web host for me to use. I previously used WebHost4Life, but I found that they tended to be down fairly often. Who would you suggest and why?

I use www.maximumasp.com. They are absolutely excellent. Great control panel for administering your web sites. Very little down time. When I have a problem their support team get back to me within minutes. The are not, however, the cheapest option. Visit Riverside Internet[^]

I've been using Web66.com for close to 10 years and have been very happy with them. I host 8 sites with them. /ravi My new year's resolution: 2048 x 1536 Home | Music | Articles | Freeware | Trips ravib(at)ravib(dot)com

i use lunarpages. they don't, however, do .Net. they're a Linux (RH Ent 3.0, i think) shop. they're reliable (not down enough that i notice), cheap and didn't laugh too much when i asked them to restore my entire MySQL DB from backup. Cleek | Image Toolkits | Thumbnail maker

I have been using a dedicated hosting solution at Peer1.com for 5 years and I had no problems. In the past, I tried many other ISPs and has problems on a weekly basis. Peer1.com has excellent service (say to reboot your machine at 3 A.M. when you screw up) and have very competitive prices. I use basic dedicated hosting plan with the 1 TB of bandwidth per month. http://www.dedicatedhosting.com/dedicated.php[^]

Get a tool that checks your site every couple of minutes and log the down-time. With that info. you should be able to get them to fix things up for you. I know they're upgrading some hardware and software this weekend (for the machines my sites are hosted on, at least), so I'm expecting things to move along a bit better. They've been the best host I've tried so far (in terms of bang for buck). Cheers, Drew.

I've been using ipowerweb for a couple of years now to host two sites. I have them monitored. They've only been down 2 times that I can remember in the last two years, and then for less than an hour. They use tucows for registrar. They have a nice control interface. They're only $7.95/month for 10 GB of space, 2,500 email addresses, 250 GB transfer per month. iPowerWeb There comes a time in every project when you've got to shoot the engineer and start production.

So confused. What are you chaps on about? TextDrive are a bunch of devs who run hosting. They do a professional service but it is for geeks, not just anybody wanting to host. Heck, you can get a photo of the server[^] you are on :) You can phone up support and make root jokes and they get it. regards, Paul Watson Ireland FeedHenry needs you

Speakeasy.net. I have used them as my DSL provider for years, but had a less expensive web host. But then there was a very odd problem where some form-based mails from my site were being sent to my email but not received. I tracked it down as far as I dcould and then tried to enlist Speakeasy on the receiver side and the other guiys on the sender side to help. The Speakeasy guiys understood the problem and set up experiements and scanned server logs./ The other guys never got past "well, if it's being send then it has to get there." So I moved four websites to speakeasy. (and the problem disappeared)

I also currently use WebHost4Life. I run a few websites and the only downtime I have experienced is with my MySQL server. I have been with them for about a year so far and it has been the best hosting provider I've been with. My SQL 2000 database went down only once in the past 12 months (when they were doing some changes I believe with SQL 2005) though was back up within minutes of me issuing a ticket. Maybe I've just been lucky.

I LOVE HostForWeb because of their instant support and support tickets are answered within 20 minutes whether it is just stating that they started working on it or a solution to your problem. The president, every now and then, does his part and helps out. You can talk to the president and vice president of the company anytime you want for suggestions and complaints. Worth checking out -- modified at 23:03 Tuesday 20th June, 2006 Forgot to mention that on the few ocassions that I've needed tech support (always my fault) they have never taken more than 6 minutes to reply to my email (I'm in Australia - they are in the USA).

I use www.discountasp.net. I love it. $10/month, lots of free ASP.NET controls and great support.

hi everyone, this is an interesting question if you do not live in the U.S. or somewhere where broadband is not thought of as a 40kbs connection :). so that been said, on a personal basis i have been using http://www.totalchoicehosting.com[^] - $4 p/m starter pack - more than enough features and bandwidth for a personal website about pet dogs and cats :-D as a company we have just moved our managed server service from the U.S. [theplanet.com[^]] to the U.K. [rackspace.com[^]]. our experience of the rackspace hosting service and control panel, but more importantly the support turn around time, is phenomenal. anyway, go have a look for yourselves. just my 2 cents. ciao guy
