      I cancelled mine AOL account a few years ago. The lady with Indian accent was actually very nice, but it took me about 30 minutes to cancel the account (she kept offering me one month of free service).[

            Some do, but if you keep doing it, then it adversely effects your credit rating.

              Because in most cases if you make one late payment anywhere the intrest rate goes from zero to high. Much safer to just pay the balance in full everymonth and not have to worry about it. :)

                  In the mid-90s, I briefly had an AOL account. In spite of accusations of problems back then, it took me less than 30 seconds to cancel mine. My brother had his account until a few years ago and had no problem cancelling his. His only complaint was he couldn't do it on line. On the other hand, the complaints remind me of a good friend trying to cancel his AT&T cell phone account. They insisted he give a reason. Anyone who thinks he has a better idea of what's good for people than people do is a swine. - P.J. O'Rourke

                      agreed. I used aol cds more than once to get a free week of net access when home with my parents for a holiday while going to college in 99/00. They didn't have a net capable PC until the middle of my sophmore year. Only problem I had was once forgetting to cancel before I left after xmas. I couldn't remember if I did and an unsuccessful attempt to log into thier webpage in late jan (early feb?) managed to register as usage on thier end and I got burned with a month or two they refused to refund. :(

                        I started on AOL when it cost $6.95 per hour (and less than 300,000 mmembers) and was our lowest priced professional (back then at least) service compared to the only other service, Compuserver at $12 per hour. Somehow I managed to get in with some people there and do some simple data conversions for them and obtained a free account. Anyway, for years I kept the account only to hold on to my name there "RockyMoore@AOL.com" (which for those who do not know it, there are many of us out there ;) ). Finally I decided to pull the plug and knew I would not ever us it again. When I called it took quite some time to make them understand I did not want AOL at all, free or paid, no more. When they understood that there was no way possible I would keep the account they looked at it to submit the cancellation.
