I'm looking for a device, and I don't think I've ever seen one. I need a modem that is network addressable, with a phone line on one end and an IP address on the other. I'm not sure how it would work, but I have software that assumes I have a modem in the computer, or can talk over a network, but I'm the only one in the office with a modem and others need to use the stuff. Is there such a thing? "...a photo album is like Life, but flat and stuck to pages." - Shog9

Something like this[^] would give you an ethernet connected serial port, and you can just connect a standard modem to it.

When you set up the internet connection on a machine you have the option to share the connection with other machines. You can set up a computer, yours or any other around the office, as a hub that all the other machines use to access the internet via a LAN which includes this computer as part of a common domain or workgroup. I'm on-line therefore I am. JimmyRopes

I think Zyxel used to do a device like this. It had a 4-port ethernet hub built in (like lots of DSL routers now), and the device itself had an IP address. You set up netmasks in the device, and when it detected that it needed to route a packet to an address, it would dial a number, and make a connection to a modem on the other end. You could put multiple address ranges and multiple phone numbers in. Basically, it was a router that routed over a phone line. I can't remember the model number, or if you needed a matching Zyxel device on the other end or not.

Allen-Bradley (www.ab.com[^]) sell a device called 9300-RADES (Remote Access Dial-up Ethernet Switch) for industrial applications. It might be the kind of thing you're looking for... Phil

FYI 3Com, D-Link, Adcom, and a few others manufacture network enabled modems, they allow you to send/receive faxes, Point-to-Point communications, as well a dial up internet (note a router dose this better and cheeper). For models check the web sites. If in US CDW carries them. Cheers
