I was in Chester with my wife and kids this weekend visiting the inlaws. We drove past a housing estate where many of the houses were completely decked out in England flags, covering all available wall space and even over the windows. (At Christmas these are the same houses that have thousands of lights decorating them). I learned never to underestimate how completely over the top some people will go when it comes to football. Words fade as the meanings change, but somehow, it don't bother me.

One of my favorite Messianic Jewish folk songs, [Clay](http://judahhimango.com/music/messianic/messianic - lamb - clay.mp3)[[^](http://judahhimango.com/music/messianic/messianic - lamb - clay.mp3)], fits your situation pretty well. The lyrics go something like:

Well, when it's all over on saturday, there will be a lot of ex-England junk to be found on ebay. We made the buttons on the screen look so good you'll want to lick them. Steve Jobs

It will all just get stored in the attic until the Euro Championships in 2008. I just wonder how much further they will be going by then? I can imagine people painting their houses white with a red cross. Words fade as the meanings change, but somehow, it don't bother me.

I don't normally take notice of 1 votes, but I really don't get the votes on your post. :^) It sounds like you had a great weekend. :)
