hum, well, for what i understood (maybe i'm wrong, hehehe), then, when you fall from 20 stories, then you scream for a loong time before meeting the ground, but when it's done, no more sound (you're definitely dead). but when you fall from 2 stories, first you fall, and then you complain because you ache... ;P

Falling from 20 stories: "Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah~~~~~~! Boom!" Falling from 2 stories: "Boom! Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah~~~~~~!!" ... just a joke.

A cat is more likely to survive falling out of a window from 5 stories than from 2 stories. But can anyone tell me why? (And yes I do know the answer) "Until the day of his death, no man can be sure of his courage" -- Jean Anouilh

The majority of cats fall out of buildings because they fall asleep and 2 floors is not enough time for them to wake-up. When they are awake they have sufficient time to turn over and assume the landing position, which btw, isn't complete when all 4's are facing down. They significantly arch their back and prepare to absorb the impact. I did not make this up either. I say it on discovery or tlc a few years back so that means some one actually researched this. Hmmmm. The "real" answer. Cats react to acceleration. During the first few stories of falling they are accelerating and they instinctively curl up to protect their head and body. This makes them fairly aerodynamic and they get going at a pretty good clip. They are also in a lousy ground hitting position as their legs aren’t out to break the fall. Once they reach terminal velocity they realize their situation and take a different posture – one which they spread out there legs and extend their head and tail giving them more of a flying squirrel profile. This gets them in the proper legs down position and slows them down enough that they stand a chance of just going crack when then hit the ground instead of splat. I know this to be true as my cat has told me so.

That may be the answer he is looking for, but I don't buy it. I have owned cats and expermented with dropping them from heights of between 5 feet and 1 inch. :-> They can spin around and land on their feet at heights above a couple of inches.
