RIP Another server
-
We've destroyed yet another server and this time there was actual fire and smoke. That server sends (sent) out the newsletter, Insider and our Sponsor's offers - over 30 million emails over its lifetime - so many would feel it's fitting it died a horrible, flaming death. Our hosting centre has a Halon fire retardant system that gives you 45 seconds to get out when it's triggered. Dave was in the hosting centre to see it happen and had a nervous moment trying to work out where the closest exit was. No trigger, just a smoking, molten mess. Next! cheers, Chris Maunder

I told my kids the old engineering joke: "What makes a computer work? Answer: smoke. Let the smoke out, and it will stop working." Hahaha... of course, if you have ever worked in a lab building new electronics, then you know all about the "smoke-test". My kids do not appreciate the joke, and they just thought I was a propeller head... ... time passes.... I come home from a long, long day, and the kids are bouncing off the walls. Seems while I was gone, the family computer's power supply blew... and, yes, smoke came out. Well, there were three of them around the computer at the time... my wife tells me their eyes were as big as plates when the smoke came out and the computer went off.... :) Glad to hear everyone got out okay... Charlie Gilley Will program for food... Whoever said children were cheaper by the dozen... lied. My son's PDA is an M249 SAW.

Had to send a link to that post to a friend... that is a classic! Never been at a site that the halon fire retardant went off at, but have wondered how fast I could move if it did... Does Dave have a new underwear supply now?

I'm counting on you guys to take that server out to a gun range, and blast a holes in it with assorted guns and rifles. Just let us know in the Lounge when you've got online pictures of the event! :-D
