Well, being a practical sort of fellow I told my wife-to-be that rather than wasting money on an engagement ring we'd be better off paying for the bathroom to be rebuilt and freshly decorated. Needless to say that did not go down well. Of course she got the ring and we got the new bathroom. But I digress: I asked on bended knee and then we sorted everything else out after. I knew that she'd say yes so didn't need the ring to distract her. :-) home

Well usually you give an engagement ring assuming your proposal is accepted. Then a wedding ring when you are married, some couples have 2 wedding rings (his and hers) which is what we did:-D John Hudson Mhegs Hudson on what she did when the router died: Well I tried System Restore :~ :omg: http://www.rainbow-innov.co.uk[^]

That's what I thought... Thinking of buying ONE "engagement ring". And a pair of wedding rings (me and her). Should "wedding ring" be more expensive? Norman Fung

I come from the same tradition as Duncan, I asked her to marry me last Friday with the Engagement ring all ready to go. Women love it when you have it ready, it saves the them alot of indecisive choosing. Regards Ray "Je Suis Mort De Rire" Blogging @ Keratoconus Watch

Well I met my wife online last year, by the time I flew out from the UK to Tucson last November to meet her I had an engagement ring tucked in my luggage. Proposed within 12 hours :-Oand married in January & exchanged wedding bands:rose: John Hudson Mhegs Hudson on what she did when the router died: Well I tried System Restore :~ :omg: http://www.rainbow-innov.co.uk[^]

My wife is far too choosey about stuff like that. There was no way she was going to let me choose the engagement ring. Although she would have liked the suprise, she far prefered to come to the jewellers with me and pick out a ring. Needless to say it cost me about three times what I had in mind to pay. The wedding bands were far simpler. Words fade as the meanings change, but somehow, it don't bother me.

Usually the wedding ring is something simpler, a gold or silver band say. In our case we chose a matching pair of silver celtic wedding bands - nothing flashy :) John Hudson Mhegs Hudson on what she did when the router died: Well I tried System Restore :~ :omg: http://www.rainbow-innov.co.uk[^]

The engagement ring usually has a nice big diamond, whereas the wedding rings are usually less extravagant. Unless you have my to-be who's wedding ring was about the same cost-wise as her engagement. Some traditions/religions have specifics (eg, religious jews wont have any stones in a wedding band) Current blacklist svmilky - Extremely rude | FeRtoll - Rude personal emails | ironstrike1 - Rude & Obnoxious behaviour

I didn't give one when I proposed. We both went to a few shops afterwards and found one we both really liked. It turned out that I picked it anyway, but she certainly appreciated having some say in the decision.

Before the engagement - Spend thousands of dollars on restaurants, movies, theater, and gifts. For the engagement - Spend thousands of dollars on an engagement ring. (Note, the his and hers matching wedding bands are simple and don't cost much) After the engagement - Continue spending thousands of dollars on restaurants, movies, theater, and gifts. After the wedding - Hand your paycheck over to your little girl. (For me, this has been going on for over 28 years) In some cases there's a disengagement (divorce) - Someone else will have to fill in the details on this one, but I heard it also involves thousands of dollars and several pints of blood.

pop the question with a parallel thread that pops the ring in the same time. You give 2 rings to a woman in your life... engaging and marrying. :-D I've found a living worth working for, but I haven't found work worth living for.

Personally, I took her best friend with me to help me choose the engagement ring. Then obviously she chose her own wedding ring.
