Possible Price tags on Windows Vista

I was just thinking (normally just a lot of crap) and was thinking about windows Vista. There is a lot of Hype over the program and I was just wondering what the cost will be. That is the one thing that makes a success of one idea and breaks the next. I'm a South African resident (born there - and NO - the Lions dont cross the streets - it is safe :-D )and with our weak economy we are entitled to ask this question, since ms windows xp pro cost us a wopping R 5000 to R 7000 since it came out. The home edition cost around R3500 (current trade is 1$ = ~R7). A few years down the line did reduce the cost, but vista is going to be brand new (Thus the analogy). Could we expect to pay R 15000 (ok - maybe I'm exagerating - but still). What do you think? PS. I have not gone through all the entries to see if there was an article already writen about this topic, thus gimme a link if neccessary. The world of the beginner is not an easy one. But we do need them!Yes, it means I'm a nOob! - BiTN

Since it's still 6-7 months away, it would be nearly impossible to even speculate. However, having never purchased a retail version of Windows and thus not in tune with its prices, I could be wrong.

How much of that price is tax/import duties? in the US XP Pro averages around $150 retail ("List price" is around $300)... Vista Business Edition is expected to be priced about the same as XP Pro...

I doubt it would be more than R1000 OEM (you obviously gonna need a new PC).**

I wont really say impossible to speculate. I've already read in a mag that the "home edition" would be the same price as the xp home. Just a speculation, but still. I was just wondering what other ppl would say. The world of the beginner is not an easy one. But we do need them! BiTN

I dont know what the extras added. I can at least say that it is not that expensive anymore. MS got soft on 3rd world countries and made it cheaper. It now costs around R1700 ($1 ~ R7). But I believe the South African gov is ripping us off with the tax :) The world of the beginner is not an easy one. But we do need them! BiTN
