Question to the English regarding their Queen
-
I was wondering ... there have been so many disasters (natural or other) and I hear so many donations from so many places/people ... like M.Schumaker's $10 million towards 2004 Tsunami ... but how come I've never heard anything like that coming out from the Queen. Now don't get me wrong ... I am not saying that she SHOULD ... after all it's a donation. FYI ... I know that the William and Harry keep playing their part in such things. The next time you get bogged down by details, don't scramble for a way to figure out how to get every single one of them down pat. For a good example of this warning, look at a particularly tightly wound coworker or friend: The stress in their life is mostly self-inflicted, and the extra efforts they put out are rarely rewarded. Skip the martyr act and keep things simple. If small problems pop up, they pop up -- and they make life a lot more interesting.

Because the government who control her finances provides the aid that is needed. And even if she was to make a donation, we'd never hear about it - she doesn't need the publicity. Michael CP Blog [^] Development Blog [^]

It depends on what kind of publicity (good / bad) you are talking about. ---------------------------------------------------------------- The next time you get bogged down by details, don't scramble for a way to figure out how to get every single one of them down pat. The queen does a lot encouraging and supporting people plus you have to remember that 'fortune' she has is actually tied up in things she can't sell such as Buckingham Palace... The tigress is here :-D

Strictly speaking there hasn't been an "English" monarchy since May 1st 1707. (You could argue that it was 1603 when Queen Elizabeth I of England died without an heir and it was found that James VI of Scotland was the nearest relative, but since James VI became "James I of England" as well we'll just say it was 1707 when England as a distinct political entity ceased to exist with the union between England and Scotland forming Great Britain. At that time Queen Anne of Scotland and England became Queen Anne of Great Britain)

It could be argued that as Head of State any donation the government give (as everything the government do is officially on her behalf) is more that most give.

We don't control her finances. Yes, we pay the Civil List, the expenses incurred in performing her public role, but the Queen has a lot of property and investments which are her own personal portfolio. There is an agreement that she will pay tax on this portfolio but HM Revenue & Customs (spot conflict of interest?) is not actually allowed to examine her income and thereby assess taxes at the normal rates. Instead the amount of tax to be paid is simply conjured up by agreement between the government and the Queen's advisers. A similar situation occurs for Prince Charles. Stability. What an interesting concept. -- Chris Maunder

Because she is a weak feeble puppet. A product of her families fears and government controll. Dont forget, the royal family are UK property. Owned by the government, history and society, destined to do their bidding, without any will of its own. Witness thew marriage of Charles to Dianna. A totally arranged marriage. And only arranged because a marfiage to Camilla wouldnt be tolerated. Same as Edward and Simpson. A marriage to a commoner, even worse an American? No way. So the queen canot do anything that hints of personal feelings. She isnt allowed to have any. She must always present the correct image, thats why she cant donate. Nunc est bibendum
