I've never bothered writing a signature. When I registered to this website about 4 years ago, my initial impression was, "What's the point? My name already appears above my posts.".

I occasionally change mine when I want to advertise some new event that Scottish Developers are doing. I feel that training opportunities are very important, and as a community run organisation we have no advertising budget - so a small discrete advert in my signature is about as much as I can afford. When the even it over I change my signature back.
