So tired...can't think...must stay awake...damn that cat
-
It's 8pm here and I'm fighting to stay away until at least another hour. Stella (the cat) woke us up again at 5am this time with a mouse loose in the bedroom. Yesterday she just wanted us to get up for some reason and started romping around on the bed. I'm half asleep this morning and keep hearing these sounds like someone's breaking into the house, crashing and banging and realize the cat has brought us a present and is chasing this mouse all around the bedroom. The cat door seemed like a good idea a year ago but now... We live in the country on a couple of acres of land and get all sorts of odd things being brought to or into the house by the cats. One of the cats at least likes to actually kill and eat whatever she catches, she goes for brains for some reason, we often find dead mice with half their had chewed off. The funny part is that Stella felt so bad after we gave her all kinds of hell at 5am this morning that she promptly went out later on and brought a bird into the house as a consolation gift. It started flying around and she was jumping around like a lunatic trying to catch it...about 10% funny and 90% aggravating. Oh well at least we don't have dogs which surely must be the spawn of satan the way they bark all the time. I don't know how people put up with that noise. Anyway the bedroom door will be firmly closed tonight; if I don't stay away long enough I'm going to wake up early again and that would truly suck. I wake up after 7 or 8 hours like clock work no matter when I actually fall asleep. I think I'll crack another beer see what's on tv. Cheers!

One of ours did something similar. Michael* disassembled a rabbit in our basement stairwell, which my wife found. She yelled at him, and he slunk off under the cars in the driveway. The next day, she found a nice big rat in the stairwell. There was no blood, and the tail was curled neatly around the body. My wife said it looked like the kind of 'presentation' that would make Martha Stewart proud.
* Three of our cats are named after the archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. It didn't help.

Actually it was a two fold name, we like Stella Artois beer and thought it would be funny when we call her in the mode of a Streetcar Named Desire...which we do: "Stelllllllaaaaa!"

Agreed. I hate dogs. It's more than the barking though. It's the jumping at you. The endless running around being a pain in the you-know-what. The digging holes, doing their business wherever and whenever they like. IF dogs can be trained not to do this (and I highly doubt it), I've never seen one trained well enough.

Actually most of them can be traind to do all those things rather easily. The key is learning to to act like an alpha dog. No animal will every be perfectly behaved 100% of the time though, so if you want that get something stuffed.

We have a coonhound that did the same thing with a live oppossum. Our other dog killed a rat and brought it in. So we have all the benefits of having dogs plus the random critters they bring in.

Dogs don't bark all the time if you train them right. There are just way to many people that think chaining a dog to a coop all day is ok. I've got a neighbor that does this and I'd love to kick his ass for doing so.
Found on Bash.org [erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.
Amen. It really pisses me off when I see animals treated like that.

You are very lucky that bat did not have rabies! If you find yourself in such a situation again, you should call animal control and have them deal with it. It's not worth catching rabies.
In my area animal control will NOT deal with them. I called and they actually told me to call the police. I had only called them because I did not want to harm it getting it out of the house and thought they would have nets or something. I ended up using a pillow case and a pair of thick gloves.

Remember - dogs have owners, cats have staff! The tigress is here :-D

We had a cat drag a half eaten snake all over our house. It left a trail of snake parts and blood and other fluids. Nasty stuff, the stink was overwhelming. I actually dunked a piece of cloth in eucalyptus oil and tied it around my nose while cleaning up the snake. It wasnt even our cat.

I've made a live choice: I rather tumble down the stairs to let the cat in at 5 a.m. than deal with half-eaten mice, head-eaten mice and the occasional everything-except-nosetip-eaten mice.
