My father left shortly before I turned 5... I'm not sure if I ever thanked him (Although if I were to put it in words it would have to go in the soapbox..)

Is this based on personal experience ? I was never close to my dad growing up, he always was out working. Since I had kids of my own, I've come to value my relationship with him a lot more, and although I live in a different state, I fly him over often to see us and his grand-kids. But, as a father, my son is 6 and sure takes it for granted that I take him everywhere and so on. I'm happy for him to, he doesn't even consider the possibility of any world except one where his father adores him, and that's fine by me. My 10 year old daughter is the same, but more so...
