It's funny that.. That should be the question of the moment! They debate about it in New Scientist. They speak about it on TV News. They speak about it on Yahoo News. Now you ask about it too?! What is it about lying that everyone seems crazy about right now?!? :omg:

I like to sleep well at night. I will, however, abstain from questions that do not deserve answering. And whenever a motorist stops and demands that I give them directions I will happily direct them the wrong way (Never yell at some one like you deserve directions, btw) and preferably to the nearest high crime zone. Or the infamous, "Honey, does this dress make me look fat?" "No dear, you'd look beautiful in a burlap sack." "You're saying the dress looks like a burlap sack!!??" "Uh, no, just that you look great in what ever you choose to wear!" "So you don't like the dress?" "No, I..." "But you think it looks cheap?" "No, I..." "Are you seeing someone else? Do you even love me anymore?!!!" "But...", meanwhile a desparate search for the System Reset Button begins... ¡El diablo está en mis pantalones! ¡Mire, mire! Because other people are idiots. And since they are idiots, we first start by lying to ourselves, that we actually like other people, that we think they intelligent. Because we have to work with them. Since we are now lying to ourselves, we then start to lie to others. "It's a great product, you should buy it", "what a great team of developers I work with", etc., Eventually, we don't even realize we're lying anymore, because everyone is lying. Eventually, lies become truth, and the cycle starts over again. WOTD: If you want people to stop lying, stop lying to yourself first. Marc Pensieve

It's part of social etiquette to lie. When you say good morning or good day to someone, you rarely mean it. Same for "good to meet you", "you look beautiful", "that's a nice dress", "how are you" etc. Social rules train us to lie to people. Regards, Nish

when it comes to serious issues, Is there any way to spot them? I mean, the liars? I'm always fooled by the well crafted ones. BTW is it heriditary?

Because they want to be part of the "community", yeah like we have one . But in doing so distance themselves from our non-existant community.

Another lie. If all generalities are wrong, then the generalization you just made about generalities must therefore be wrong. It's almost impossible not to lie.

 regards, Mircea Many people spend their life going to sleep when they’re not sleepy and waking up while they still are.

Only once? Then you ARE a liar!

It is unless you know this fact, then state it as though it's truth. Then it becomes a lie. Of course it wouldn't be a lie if you failed to recognize it as fallacy before stating it.

Stating a common paradox does not make me a liar. A man said to the universe: "Sir I exist!" "However," replied the Universe, "The fact has not created in me A sense of obligation." -- Stephen Crane
