When you go from
(a + b)*(a-b) = b(a-b)
toa + b = b
you divide both sides by(a-b)
which is zero (since a = b). James Sonork: Hasaki "I left there in the morning with their God tucked underneath my arm their half-assed smiles and the book of rules. So I asked this God a question and by way of firm reply, He said - I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays." "Wind Up" from Aqualung, Jethro Tull 1971 -

Man - talk about taking a statement out of context! In all algebra you still have to play by the rules. If you say: Let x = a/b you still have to make the caveat "where b != 0". You can say 'let x = a/b where b->0', but that's still saying b != 0. cheers, Chris Maunder

if a == b then a-b == 0, therefore you're off dividing by zero again....
