    Let a and b be any equal numbers.

    a = b
    a^2 = ab
    a^2 - b^2 = ab - b^2
    (a + b) (a - b) = b(a - b)
    a + b = b
    a = 0

      Man, that is gonna make my job sooo much easier... 'cept all divisions will be undefined... ;P_**

        When you go from (a + b)*(a-b) = b(a-b) to a + b = b you divide both sides by (a-b) which is zero (since a = b). So I asked this God a question and by way of firm reply, He said - I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays." "Wind Up" from Aqualung, Jethro Tull 1971

              Man - talk about taking a statement out of context! In all algebra you still have to play by the rules. If you say: Let x = a/b you still have to make the caveat "where b != 0". You can say 'let x = a/b where b->0', but that's still saying b != 0. cheers, Chris Maunder
