Hi, I get annoyed when I want to insert some specific 'data' in a cell on a excel sheet. Suppose I want to enter '1 - 10' (exactly this) into a cell, excel automatically replace that with a date format '1/okt'. Grrrr I hate when it does a thing like that . And there doesn't seem to be an easy way to force the initial text . Anybody knows how to desactivate this feature ? (I already checked in 'AutoCorrect options' but I couldn't find it)

You woudn't have this on a Mac... Mac's are into "fun" stuff, like podcasting. Or editing your family's vacation videos... Or surfing the net... no boring stuff like spreadsheets there... http://movies.apple.com/movies/us/apple/getamac_ads2/work_480x376.mov[^] That being said, you could enter '1 - 10 (including the ') and Excel shouldnt parse that as a date then.

i am not sure if i understood you correctly, but if you want to display "1-10" in the cell, just prepend a single quote, like this: '1-10

Option number two, change the cell format from type General to type Text.

I was wondering if someone was going to suggest this. I remember it from 15 years ago when I used to use Lotus 1-2-3. Amazing the tips you pick up, and remember, over the years.
