Wonder how long it will take to see that in production.. I would imagine there are many uses for such a technology!

Oh great. We have a hard enough time getting our* water-based inks to stick to ordinary paper. * The company I work for makes high-speed ink jet printing systems.

Waterproof paper has been around for quite a while. I used it 10 years ago when I took a surveying course. Surveyors have traditionally had to 1) keep working, even in the rain 2) take a lot of notes, so it's not a new invention. http://www.waterproof-paper.com/waterproof-field-book.html[^] or just Google for: Waterproof field books The paper feels slightly stiffer and slipperier than ordinary paper, and if you write on it when wet (we used pencils) the writing looks very light, but darkens when it dries out.

It already is, one of the shoots I went to in Mid-Wales was using water-proof paper for the scorecards. It was great considering the weather at the time (it was so wet that the stock on my gun [although apparently water-repellent] swelled up so that when I took it off to clean I couldn't get it back on). The scorecards were great if people used pencils but someone tried a pen and it just washed off.

Waterproof paper has been around for at least 20 years that I personally know of. I used to work in the bush (forestry) and there is an occupation there called a "scaler" which is someone who is trained in estimating very accurately how much wood is in a log in order to certify a logging truck load of wood as it comes out of the forest to the mill. They used log books that contained waterproof paper which was a necessity because in our neck of the woods it rains just about the entire winter non-stop. I just realized how much that video looks like the one about the guy who "invented" that no heat welding gas or whatever it was that supposedly allows his car to run on water.

I believe the breakthru is how easy and fast the process is to create the paper. Steve

There's probably something new about it, but the way those news stories are done you would think she invented waterproof paper. I blame the media (as I often do for so many things! )
