Gecko Meets Godzilla
-
That's a video short I'd wait in line to see. For those of you who don't understand the reference, Google for "Bambi Meets Godzilla" and you'll get the idea. Any of you who are assaulted with the commercials for insurance company Geico will doubtless have noticed that they've changed from the quirky, funny little spots to using a CGI gecko (complete with Aussie accent) doing a standup monologue routine. I can't hit the fast forward button on my DVR quick enough to suit me. I say it's time we put a bounty on his little orange head. Now the Taco Bell Chihuahua - there was an icon you could look up to. So to speak.

Same here. I thought Godzilla was a new product proposal from Mozilla which used the Geckco rendering engine.
I too associated it with the rendering engine.
Cheers, Vikram.

That's the first time in a decade that I've seen the entire movie. Usually what's found on the Internet is just a few seconds of it. Wish I knew how or where to save it before it vanishes again. It's a classic!

I instantly associated Gecko with the rendering engine in Firefox rather than the actual animal.

That may work on Google Video, but not on places like YouTube...

They wanted to charge me about $1000 more per year than State Farm. BTW, State Farm is awesome! Esp. with claims handling. (Sorry for the blatant add but give credit were it is due)

GVP file? No clue what you're talking about (generates 404).

-Adam Duritz, of Counting CrowsApparently not. Windows Media 9 complains about the .avi, "module not found". They appear to not want it downloaded in a useful form. This is the sort of thing that irritates me - I'd gladly pay for this video, but it's simply not for sale. I encountered similar frustration when trying to purchase the CD soundtrack for "National Treasure." It's already out of print and out of stock, shortly after the movie was released. I like the music, so I tried to give them my money, but I can't. However, if I went to a music site and downloaded it (a practice I generally oppose for work where the artist should be getting paid), RIAA would have 45 guys outside my door with rocket launchers. For a video such as Bambi, which I believe to be in the public domain at this point, these download games really test my patience.

Have you actually tried to do this (and verify that the subsequent avi file can be played) with the video in question? They appear to be doctoring the avi files so that they can't be viewed.

I guess you don't know many Aussies, the accent is from London, as is the speech patterns and word choice.

Well, the Aussies are an endangered species here in Atlanta, so you'd be guessing correctly. However, watching the gecko immediately made me think of my conversations with Chris (the resemblance is remarkable, you must admit), so I'm sure my assumptions were at least somewhat plausible. :-D

When I was involved in a Hit and Run they cut me a check no questions asked - the deductible. Then wrote me a lost value check that I didn't even ask for in the sum of thousands.

Hm. Interesting. I just downloaded it as an mp4 for the Video iPod and it works fine. Of course...I have a Video iPod and I use iTunes...so it's no big deal for me to do that. You could convert it from the mp4 format to an avi file if you want...

-Adam Duritz, of Counting CrowsI didn't, but I would have felt better if I had. I hate those commericals.
