Well, pay all depends on what job you are going for, how much relevant experience you have, the company's business sector, location of work place, to some extents, age, to name but a few. I would also say that academic qualifications can play a part - more so when you are first starting out than later on. After a few years, any qualifications you have really become just a statistic - it's your experience that counts. You could take a look at http://www.jobstats.co.uk which collates info from job ads around the UK. However, bear in mind that the average rates/salaries quoted would be for those with a number of years of experience behind them, so may not be of much help. My guess would be for someone who's recently graduated from University entering a Software Engineering role with little or no experience would probably be offered around 22-24k. Free

Look at similar jobs on Monster.co.uk. That'll give you an idea. There... That's my company loyalty done for the month. Sorry to dissapoint you all with my lack of a witty or poignant signature.

60k and don't take anything less ;) Make sure they throw in a company car, flexi, overtime, bonuses, 30 day hols, PRP, pension and relocation expenses. Oh and make sure your friend is applying for the right job. Normski. - Professional Windows Programmer
