225 years ago, we set an example for the rest of the world by creating a country where everyone could vote...

Well........ I have had it today. I have been around this place for like a six months now..... or may be less, but I am getting quite glued to the place. I know of so many people have been around for longer. But get this feeling that some of them havent just "been around". There is this "thing" they have for each other. Jeremy Falcon, for example, always seems to know how many beers Christian had gulped before he decided to change the CP layout. David stone often reminds Chris Maunder of the historical moment when his grammar started going all over the place. I feel as if you people have a history. Perhaps you guys robbed a bank together. Or played in the same band for college. Or is this what CP does to you? Or am I jumping the guns? What ever it is, what is it exactly? What on earth is codeproject?

I've been playing around for here for nearly 2 years (more without login in) and for me it's the only place on the net where you can find such a huge repository of code plus a large community of very well prepared/experienced people and you feel confortable to ask tech and non tech issues and also to just chat of whatever you want!!! What else can you expect?? Marc.

In one word? Awesome. In a few more words? CP is the only "online community" (that term is used a lot, and I don't use it out of habit, but it just seems to fit somehow) that I know of where people actually care for each other. I don't know why it is so different to everywhere else, but it just is. The regulars are there to give each other advice through the lows and to rejoice in the highs, but also just to chat and be good friends. There's a bit of everything here, all types of people that generally share a common interest that keeps them together. I think the fact that most people use their real name for their login (somewhat unusual these days) helps a lot too.

Do you think it's because we have The Lounge and The Soapbox where people kinda divulge their personal lives, their political stance, their hobbies, favourite food, and everything else? You know the saying, you can't love 'em if you don't know 'em :-D

I think that using real names makes this community unique, it's somewhat the key of CP. When you start to wander around in The Lounge quite often, you begin to remeber the names, then the opinions of the people, their ideas, the work they do... in other words you begin to know them. It's odd and it might seem quite geeky (because only a few of the CPians ever met), but it happens, and it doesn't happen in many other places. Add to this the fact that here on CP there is people (mostly IT professionals) from all over the world, and you have a good picture of what it is.
