What is the best board game of all time?
-
My husband and I are planning a couple rounds of Trivia Pursuit - Pop Culture edition ( one of the game pieces is a garden gnome- how cool is that?) in a little bit. I have a feeling that most of us on this site are more drawn to video games or computer games but board games feel so much more organic. What do ou think was/is the best board game? Risk? Life? Scrabble? Trivia Pursuit? Connect 4? Chess? Checkers? Do you still play board games?
Monopoly:cool:
Found on Bash.org [erno] hm. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is.

Rather lame. Now all the little kids can grow up not being able to add/subtract and thinking plastic > cash. :wtf:

It's hard to argue with Monopoly as the best board game. But it never was the funnest for me. I always had a better time with Clue.

My wife and I enjoy Upwords and Boggle. My wife likes Rummikub, but I'm not a big fan. When I was a kid, my brother loved Sorry. You'd think it's just a luck game, but he won the vast majority of the time.

Hi, I think Chess is without a doubt the best board game of all times, and on the second place Checkers, both are very nice to play. One game that is missing in the list is Go which would be on the third place for me.:)

Carcasonne is a great family board game with fairly simple rules but has many different ways to play it. My girls (9 and 11) and wife (amazingly) all play and they really enjoy it. Winning is generally shared evenly. Chess of course is the classic choice but balance is always a challenge and it only allows 2 to lay rather than the whole family. Settlers of Catan is also a good family game. Check out Boardgamegeek.com http://www.boardgamegeek.com/browser.php?itemtype=game&sortby=rank&rank=39#39[^] for a list of games and rankings. "Go To Texas", but I don't think it's made any more.

Scrabble, chess, backgammon, trivia... Those are probably my all-time favorites. Risk is a lot of fun with the right people, same for Axis and Allies - but both lose their fun if you're playing with people who have no patience or sense of humor. This goes double for Monopoly.

Chutes and Ladders! Backgammon and chess for 2 people. Monopoly and Risk are great, but can drag on forever. Pictionary can be fun, especially when nobody can draw, and the alcohol is flowing. :)

I used to spend a whole lot of time playing Advanced Squad Leader[^]. Of course, most of the time was spent trying to figure out the rules :| The rulebook was a 3-ring binder holding hundreds of pages. In very small print...

This one[^]. j/k I remember seeing this in my friend's parent's house when we were in 3rd grade. Why this was the first thing that popped into my mind just now, I have no idea. Battleship is clearly superior to all other games.
