      Configure your firewall, which ever one you're using, to block the inbound and outbound ports that your applications are using.

          That depends entirely on the firewall you're using and where it's located. If it's installed on your machine, then you'd probably go into Control Panels to control it. if it's an external firewall, like in a router, there's usually a website in the router you can use to configure it. After that, look up what you have to do in the documentation of your firewall.

              Have you done any exploring in it?? If the firewall is turned on, then the ports are blocked. you actually have to open ports in order to use them. On the Exceptions tab, this is done by either allowing all ports opened by an application (Add Program button) through, or by specifying specific ports (Add Port button).
