.NET Framework from Microsoft can only be used in Windows. If you want to used .NET Framework in Linux, then you must go to Mono Project.

It was designed to be platform independent, but Microsoft only provides a runtime for Windows. Look at Mono or Portable.NET for for alternative platforms.
