Hello AT LAST!! One of my dreams came true!! Few weeks ago I posted a message WinME struggles back[^] It was about old applications that didn't work with WinXP even with the compatibility option in the properties tab is turned on. Also i complained from old cds unreadable on WinXP regardless of the hardware. Most answers were concentrating on the Cds issue. Yet the old applications were still driving me nuts:mad: Now, I found a perfect solution for the problem and I wanted to share it with all of you. It's Microsoft Virtual PC[^]. Using it you can install and run an entire windows system within your current windows. No more multi booting headaches:-D. I tried it myself and installed WinME within my XP. It installs it in a single Vmc file, and makes a virtual Harddrive which is also only one file. It works like a charm I may sound like a microsoft ad here but it's just that I'm excited. Virutal windows even identified my LAN and internet connection, the programs and cds worked fine within my virtual WinME, and I can even think of many more benefits from having a virtual windows within mine: 1- You could install a virtual WinXP wihtin your to try any disasterious programs, or anything else you might be afraid that it would crash your system. 2- You could test your apps extensively on many windows versions with variable settings and configurations. 3- test any suspicious apps within your Virtual windows. 4- I think you can even install Linux, or Mac OS wihtin your windows -but I don't know how yet- Anyway, I hope this solves many of your problems as it did with me. To some of you this may mean welcome back to our old fashioned DOS games dusted on the shelves;P NB. For anyone interested, there is another related solution called Microsoft virtual server. Regards:rose:

Yeah right!! That's why you didn't answer me few weeks ago when I asked, right? And thanks for telling me that VPC is old news. I didn't notice that the version I downloaded was Virtual PC 2004 There is a difference between news share and news flash -That's why they made newsletters by the way-. I didn't know about VPC till few days ago, and when I posted here in CP no one pointed me to it. That's why when I had the time to test it earlier today, I thought of sharing this info with those who might benefit from it. Oh! And you are welcome anyway. Regards:rose:

I'm using virtual PC since a couple of months for testing sharepoint websites and it works great. And indeed, its great for running those old programs, without having to build or buy a second computer :D

Even better than VirtualPC is VMWare Workstation. You can even create Unix virtual PC's. Not to mention, the latest version allows you to take snapshots and revert back to a specific snapshot if you need to. I've been using this for a while and I don't know how I lived without it. Now if they would only add OS X support... Regards,

Virtual PC seems to be free now ... at least that is what the website URL indicates. Perhaps that is just the SP-1? I've been meaning to give it a try.

Didn't see your thread a few weeks ago :-> I saw it back in spring of 2003 at the college bookstore where I went to school, never really gave thought to it until I worked as a Quality Assurance Engineer. When I used it at my old job, I thought I was in heaven with it :-D Still use it to this day when I want to setup a quick test machine without the hassle of digging around for spare hardware. You might also want to check out VMWare[^]. Take care, Paul

I've done that with Virtual PC and found mixed results. Some good and some bad.

Hello It's free. Just download VPC SP1. It's not really un upgrade. Rather it's a program. There is another "not free" edition, but I still don't know the difference.:) Regards:rose:
