I personally think Opera is a very good web browser, but it isn't widely popular, can anyone not using it but had tried it tell me why?

Habit, for me. I'm used to Firefox and I don't see any reason to switch. :)

I use it sometimes. I love its good perf and low memory usage. But I don't use it as my main browser because it doesn't have support for extensions, it doesn't work with as many sites as IE and FF do, and it's IMO a bit ugly.

i used to use it, back before the web went crazy with DHTML, Falsh and IFrames. back when things were simple, Opera was a reasonable choice. then people started writing things that only worked on IE, and I had to switch.

I agree with every sentence! :) Opera was my second browser before Firefox came along but now FF is my primary browser for the reasons you state. I do update both Opera and FF continually though.

A month ago I was so thrilled with Opera that I decided to switch to it 100%. Unfortunatelly, too many sites I visit, including CP don't work well with this browser, so I switched back to IE (Win) and Epiphany (Lin, FreeBSD). A pitty, IMHO. Opera is a great browser, especially in terms of performance.

And a lot of the AJAX-enabled sites/functionality too.

I used Opera almost exclusively for many months, probably years, until roughly 1.5 years back. Then I discovered Firefox.

                  Cheers, Vikram.

It used to cost money. I'm sure that turned off a lot of people, myself included. FF was free and more than adequate.
