Hello Everyone, I'm trying to get some input from all codeproject users. I just finished my school and haven't have a job yet. I planning to go back to take courses like A+, Network+ and MCP. Should I take all at one or taking A+ and Network+ first because it cost $1000 for A+ & Network+ and $1700 for all. Any suggestion are welcome. Thank everyone!:doh:

I will start being known as the guy that hates certifications. Certs only go as far as the bin. Get a job and get experience. Any company that really desires the paper to appease their clientelle will pay for it for you and those that won't aren't worth working for.

Congrats on completing college and realizing that you will need to continue your education. My first suggestion is to proofread your writing. Your writing is most likely going to be the first contact with a company and you want to make a good first impression. Second, if you want to learn new skills, getting a certification can be a good goal to help keep you focused on learning. IMO, it's not useless if your purpose is to learn, despite what others say. There are certainly plenty of people with certs that either cheated, forgot the material, or otherwise are ignorant yet touting knowledge. This does ruin it for people who are trying learn and show some level of competence without having on-the-job experience, but personally I don't think it should deter you from pursuing a certification if you have no other means of showing some familiarity with a technology through work. Third, don't wait until you have your certifications to start/continue looking for work. As was mentioned on-the-job experience is the best experience, so anything related to your field will help more than a certification.

Nobody can fault you for your opinions, if they do it's only because they're not bright enough to come up with something intelligent in reply. By the replies I recieved via my post about certs, I've come to the conclusion that experience and knowledge of the field is more beneficial than depending solely on a paper trail. However having the papers in some really nice frames:-> could give a leg up if you've got the fore mentioned exp.IMHO

No, you're not. When I used to be in the networking business and hiring I binned about 500 resumes from people with certifications and no networking experience at all. I could not have cared less about certification. If I was hiring a "new guy" to start at the bottom, I was much more interested in hiring someone who would be first of all a good employee, secondly truly interested in the work and thirdly prepared to get certification at a later date once they proved themselves. If I was hiring a higher level tech they had to have years of practical on the job experience, again certifications not important.

I commented a HR recruited on this because I love it so much. Inside of your job listing include some phrase that states exactly what to put in the message subject. It allows a faster filter because you can ignore the apply to all job seakers and the non-attention to details peeps in one sweep. Like: Job: ... ... ... Desrcription: ... ... Only people with attention to detail will be considered for this position. Place I want Job# xxyy in the subject line of your email or it will be discarded ... ... Contact: ... Make up your own phrase of course.

Get a job, forget those certs or let your new employer send you on them.
