I've booked my flight for my next US trip ( had to move quick, I got a great price ), and now I'm looking at hotels. I'm staying 3 nights in LA, to get over my jetlag, and I'm intending on getting to a Def Leppard concert ( although I've tried to get two CPians to go with me, with no luck so far ). The thing is, I am now needing to book a hotel. The travel agent suggested one that will cost me about $450. I can see ones online that seem close to the airport that are more like $300. Now, all I intend to do in LA is to work, get over my jetlag, and go out to get some food from time to time. Should I be worried about a cheaper hotel, in terms of safety ? Are they going to be in the 'drug lord' part of town ? Or am I being silly ? If any CPian can recommend a good cheap hotel that is close to the airport, I'd appreciate it. I'm also told that there's a shuttle bus to the hollywood bowl, I need to get on that for my concert, so I guess that's a factor, too. I don't want to save $100 on hotels and spend $150 on taxis. Obviously, I need an internet connection, and a bed, that's about all. A TV would be OK, especially if it has the history channel. That's why I thought it silly to not look for something cheaper.

From what you list as your needs I think you can do a lot better than that. I just did a quick check with www.travelocity.com and found several in the $100-200 USD range (by LAX not in the slums.) And I am assuming LAX and not one of the other 1/2 dozen airports :) FYI - I have not traveled thier in 10 years. Westin[^] (does not specifically state internet (but state of the art tech) Travelodge[^] Holiday Inn[^]

I've always liked Resident Inn's (part of the Marriot chain)...free breakfast and happy hours (with food) during the week and free internet access too (most are wireless now)...they have kitchen facilitys in each room. Where is the concert being held? The Forum (in Inglewood) is not too far from the LAX airport, but if it's at the Staples Center (downtown LA), you might want to try something closer. Steve

I'd suggest HolidayInn Express. I've stayed in these all over the country and have always been pleased: clean, free breakfast, internet access in every room (a few don't have this, but most do). They're a bit cheaper than the "family" standard Holiday Inns (I guess they're meant for business travelers). They don't have an in-hotel restaurant, but those usually suck anyway. I found this -- I've never stayed at this one, but it looks good and you can get a room for ~$105 /night plus tax (works out to ~$340 for the stay (including tax)): LAWNDALE-LAX AIRPORT AREA Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites 14814 HAWTHORNE BLVD LAWNDALE, CA 90260 UNITED STATES Good luck and enjoy your trip! -Justin

The concert is at the Hollywood Bowl. Getting there is probably half of my concern.
