Hello, One guy that works in the enterprise has used his camcorder in order catch all the special moments of his holidays, now he wants to show us his trip, but before he ants to edit a little bit that video. Some time ago he bought Pinnacle Studio in order to edit videos, but it seems that it cannot import directly from the DVD, at least, it imports only the images, but not the sound. Do you know of any good tool (free if possible) in order to edit videos from a DVD? by "edit" I mean to cut add sound, use the original sound, fade, effects, titles... Any hint will be welcom. As always thank you in advance.

You cannot edit it directly on the DVD. You'll have to get the DVD content off the DVD's and onto a hard-drive where Pinnacle Studio or similar can edit them. There are a lot of DVD copy products out there and since I seriously doubt his videos are encrypted it should be a very easy thing to copy content off the DVD onto an HDD and do the editing there.

I have a SONY DVD-camcorder and it comes with its own software editing tool. However, you need to copy it off the DVD first which it does transfer to your machine. Your DVD-cam shold have come with the software. If you would like to edit in the DVD, switch it to a format type that supports it. My DVD-cam has 3 formats, one that allows editing while recording. I don't use it because it records only half the time that a normal recording allows.

The web abounds with DVD ripping software, which is what you need. You need to turn the files back into mpgs before you edit them.

1st step would be to make sure your wife doesn't leave camcorder out in the rain all night.

I think you have missed the thread... but of course if this happens you can always put the camera inside the microwave oven at maximum power for 3 minutes. ;)
