Signs I'm getting old

In the good old days, I used to be able to code till 2am and still be able to wake up and be functional at 7am. Nowadays I'm lucky if I can code to 12am and get up at 8. Is there a cure for this, as I've got a lot of code that I want to write but there aren't enough hours in the day. I was always told that you needed less sleep as you get older, it doesn't seem to be working for me. Any tips for how a desk jockey like me can get less sleep and be more productive? Michael :-)

This may be a porr suggestion as it would take you away from coding: I do some really heavy exercise most days. It makes sure I sleep really well. I am currently getting only about 6 hours a night, and I prefer 12! But I don't seem to be having any productivity problems with it. In the good old days the TSO line only worked from 6AM to 8PM so I never had this problem. You have two options. Go to bed at 10 and be more productive when you are awake or become a manager and hire 10 people to do what you had done yourself.:) To be conscious that you are ignorant of the facts is a great step towards Knowledge. Hey it's exactly the same for me. I need my 8.5 hours sleep to be functional again. So if I have coded until 1 or 2 am its 10 or 10:30 in the morning until I show up. Beeing younger I chained 1 .. 3 all nighters together with no problem. I thing that's life. We are getting older. I am a signature virus! Help me spread and copy me to your sig! Ooops I am infected

Michael, For years I used to work till the wee hours of the morning (5-6am) - at 43, I find it's getting harder to do. So, I tried switching to a day schedule and now awaken at 6am, start hacking right away, and quit by 4-5pm. I fall asleep with (most of) the rest of humanity by about 11pm and find I've been getting much more work done. I never thought in my wildest dreams that (a) I'd turn into a morning person or (b) I could get more work done during a day schedule. It feels great and (from what I'm told) is healthier for you. As an added benefit, you get to blow your coworkers' minds by coming into work before noon. :) Try it - you might be pleasantly surprised! /ravi PS: Switching my schedule has caused my daily caffeine intake to drop to 2 small cups of coffee (and no soda). My Dad always told me that you'll know you're getting old when the only thing stiff in the morning is your back. I'm still a pup:-D
