How to backup outlook express contacts and groups?
-
Hi, Is there a way to extract 'Address Book Groups' into a serialized format such as a csv and then read it back for backup purposes. My dad needs to backup his outlook express emails + address book, I have backed up his address book before into csv format but it didn't preserve the groups. Any help would be great Thanks in advance :) Tom

Thanks Nish, I have already seen that article by Microsoft, however it doesnt mention anything about backing up groups, my dad has groups of upto 60 people. As I said I have backed up his Address Book before, but when I did, it only had the contacts and he had to re-create the groups and add all the people to those groups which was a really big pain to him. Is there anyway of doing it but copying the groups. Thanks Tom

You're right. I am posting in the coding forums as well, because I'd like to do it anyway possible. Dell are sending a restoration disk over today, and my dads computer will have to be formatted meaning he'll lose everything in his address book. I could do it normally but he'd have to add the contacts back to the groups. Anyway possible as I said, scripting or non scripting. Tom

How about just copying the original files? For XP it is located at \Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\UserName.wab you can do the same thing with the emails copying the contents of the directory Directory of D:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\GUID\Microsoft\Outlook Express\*.* and then import the messages from an OE6 store directory where the italic subdirectories are unique to the user...
