*after reading gamedev.net and not seeing helpful replies* Is it .NET (C#) only? or non-managed development is suported as well?

I think it is C# in .net but I am not sure.

how vital enterprise application are for proactive organizations leveraging collective synergy to think outside the box and formulate their key objectives into a win-win game plan with a quality-driven approach that focuses on empowering key players to drive-up their core competencies and increase expectations with an all-around initiative to drive up the bottom-line. But of course, that's all a "high level" overview of things --thedailywtf 3/21/06

The XNA framework is a CLR library that abstracts away the underlying platform--Windows and the Xbox360. Since it is a CLR platform, it is managed, yes. The nice thing about CLR libraries is that you can use them from any .NET language. If the developers of the library have chosen to do so, they can expose the CLR library as a COM object as well, making it callable from any language that can speak to COM objects. The current XNA Studio Express IDE is C#-only right now. That doesn't mean you can't use the XNA libs from a different language; it just means you'd have to use some other IDE. The reason the XNA Studio Express team didn't support VB.NET or C++/CLI is that both of those have dependency libraries that aren't ported to work on the XBox360. However, the team did say they are looking for feedback about which languages to support in the future on both Windows and the XBox360, so it wouldn't surprise me to see support for other .NET languages soon.

Very cool, I've been looking forward to this for a long time. Unfortunately Beta 1 does not include the Content Pipeline[^], yet. But it will be fun to play with nonetheless. I'm gonna be putting together some simple demos with this over the next few days, maybe I'll write an article.
