Microsoft XML Notepad 2006

Simplicity is the hallmark of genius. A lot of times, I need just a good treeview editor for XML and I hate all the bloated XML-wares out there. I personally prefer Notepad (or UltraEdit) for editting XML, but I still like seeing it in a tree every now and then.

XML Notepad 2006[^] Handy features include: * Tree View synchronized with Node Text View for quick editing of node names and values. * Incremental search (Ctrl+I) in both tree and text views, so as you type it navigates to matching nodes. * Cut/copy/paste with full namespace support. * Drag/drop support for easy manipulation of the tree, even across different instances of XML Notepad and from the file system. * Infinite undo/redo for all edit operations. * In place popup multi-line editing of large text node values. * Configurable fonts and colors via the options dialog. * Full find/replace dialog with support for regex and XPath. * Good performance on large XML documents, loading a 3mb document in about one second. * Instant XML schema validation while you edit with errors and warnings shown in the task list window. * Intellisense based on expected elements and attributes and enumerated simple type values. * Support for custom editors for date, dateTime and time datatypes and other types like color. * Handy nudge tool bar buttons for quick movement of nodes up and down the tree. * Inplace HTML viewer for processing xml-stylesheet processing instructions. * Built-in XML Diff tool.

I realize you're not Microsoft tech support :) but does it actually display the XML? I click on a node, and I get this pale green bar highlighting nothing on a blue background. Pretty wierd. Marc

If it is anything else, then you should be able to type on the highlighted row in the right pane. The previous one was more user friendly I think and they just wanted to push .NET technologies.

Thanks for posting this link/info. I've been using the original Xml Notepad for a while now, but it wasn't very good for much; this newer version looks much better.

From what I can tell - in order to actually display the XML you would select "source" from the view menu option. This opens up the XML file with standard notepad - a kludge at best.
According to the dev notes the app will be placed in codeplex and improved over time.
